5.4.4 Thermal protection safety
st
The drive guarantees a 1
independent relay system described in the connection diagram which constitutes an independent
protection circuit meeting safety classification SIL2 in accordance with the standard IEC 61508.
Two safety types are used:
Temperature sensors (2 in number) fitted in the servomotor coil mean that the circuit is mechanically
opened on a temporary basis at 125°C±5°C.
A thermal cut-out fitted with a contact on the servomotor casing means that the circuit is mechanically
opened on a permanent basis at 130°C±5°C.
Both temperature sensors and the thermal cut-out are wired in-series with the coil of the drive power
contactor. If the maximum temperature is reached, the temperature sensors are opened and
temporarily cut off the power supply to the contactor coil. If the temperature reaches a dangerous level
due to a temperature sensor fault, the thermal cut-out melts; permanently cutting off the power supply
to the contactor coil.
The motor thermostat is an automatic resetting device that is used to shut the power down from the
motor controller should an over temperature condition occur in the motor windings. The thermostat
leads should be connected into a latched ( locked-out) power down type circuit.
Caution (see diagrams in appendix) :
Make sure the parameters of the contactor and the connecting are strictly followed.
The motor is disabled if the thermal cut-out is activated!
The power contactor KM1 should be replaced in accordance with its operation lifespan and
number of manoeuvres. A yearly test, intended to check on the ability of the contactor to detect
condition changes, should also be carried out.
5.4.5 Encoder option
Caution: the precautionary measures for handling device sensitive to
electrostatic discharges should be observed in the specific case of an encoder
option.
