The
TANT is intended to shunt cerebrospinal fluid
(cSf) from the lateral ventricles of the brain into
the peritoneum.

The

TANT is intended for use as a supple-

effect in conjunction with either a conven-

tional or adjustable differential pressure

valve. Particular attention was paid to de-

velop a device that can forestall negative

effects such as changes in subcutaneous

pressure (e.g. owing to tissue capsules or an

unfavorable patient position).

The paediSHUNTASSISTANT utilises the same
mechanism as the SHUNTASSISTANT. ho-
wever, it is considerably smaller and its func-
tions are intended to meet the special needs of
pediatric hydrocephalus.
TANT consists of a robust titanium casing (1),
a weight-ball (2), as well as a small sealing ball
(3) that rests on the ball seat (4). The cerebro-
spinal fluid flows in through the inlet port (5)
and flows out by way of the outlet port (6).
