▶ Check each pipe visually.

7.3 Removing the limescale

Limescale dissolves in a slightly acid medium. The use
of citric acid dissolved in clear water is very effective
and environmentally friendly.
▶ Mount both reversing covers provided with the old
gaskets.
▶ Fill the shell and tube condenser with an aqueous
solution of 25% citric acid.
▶ Allow the solution to react for 24 hours and pump it
from time to time from the outlet directly into the inlet
of the shell and tube condenser.
▶ Empty the shell and tube condenser and remove
both reversing covers.
▶ Rinse the dissolved substances out of each pipe.
▶ Check each pipe visually. If necessary, brush them
again or/and use again an aqueous solution of 25%
citric acid and allow it to react for another 24 hours.
▶ Thoroughly rinse each pipe.
▶ Flush them with a 2% solution of sodium hydrogen
carbonate.
▶ Rinse each pipe again very thoroughly.
▶ Measure the pH value of the rinsing water. It must be
neutral (pH = 7 ± 0.5).
▶ Mount both reversing covers provided with new gas-
kets.
▶ Continue see chapter Charging coolant, page 49.

8 De-commissioning

WARNING
The system is under pressure!
Serious injuries are possible.
Wear safety goggles!
▶ Switch the refrigeration system off.

8.1 Draining the coolant

DANGER
Coolant may be toxic.
Do not swallow coolant. Wear gloves. Rinse the
contaminated skin thoroughly.
▶ Observe the information on the system.
WARNING
Coolant can burn skin and eyes
Wear safety goggles!
▶ The coolant circuit is under pressure! Pay attention
when draining the coolant.
▶ Re-use the coolant or dispose of it properly!

8.2 Extracting the refrigerant

CAUTION
Refrigerant can be very cold
Risk of severe frostbite.
Avoid any contact with the refrigerant.
▶ Switch the refrigeration system off.
▶ The refrigerating circuit is under pressure, open it
carefully.
▶ Extract the refrigerant or pump it down as a liquid.
▶ Re-use the refrigerant or dispose of it properly!
NOTICE
!
!
The heat exchanger tubes may burst if the
coolant freezes.
Ensure a sufficient refrigerant temperature at
any time.
