lap joint dimension "h" (see ill. 7) is marked on
scale (no. 18). Then, tighten clamping lever
(no. 15) again.
6. To ensure that the lap joint starts at the work-
piece edge, check whether the value "0" is in-
dicated on scale (no. 12 - ill. 8) on the edge of
the housing. If this is not the case, correct the
value accordingly by means of hand wheel
(no. 11).
7. Set the horizontal travel distance of the cutting
assembly by turning hand wheel (no. 21 - ill. 12)
so that the right-hand edge of stop (no. 22 -
ill. 13) indicates at least the workpiece width
on scale (no. 23). It is recommended to add an
increased factor of safety of some millimeters
(inches).
8. Move the cutting assembly downward to the
lower stop position by pressing push-button
"DOWN (AB)" and then set mode select switch
(no. 7 - ill. 5) to position "3" before closing the
cover of the machine housing.
9. When cutting lap joints, release handle lever
(no. 27 - ill. 15) and set the double stop so that
pointer (no. 28) indicates on scale (no. 29) the
finished tim-ber length without the lap joint
length "t" (see. ill. 7). Tighten the handle lever
again. Put the workpiece against the guide
border of the workpiece support, slide into the
feed opening and push against the front flap of
the double stop. Then, clamp the workpiece by
means of clamping device (no. 26 - ill. 14) and
position both slides (no. 24 and 25) close to
the workpiece.
The length of the lap joint is 110 mm (4
in.) max. in one cutting operation. For
longer lap joints, the cutting process has
to be carried out in steps. (Possibly use the rear
flap of the double stop.)
10. Press start push-button (no. 8 - ill. 5). The cut-
ter head is cutting automatically the set lap
joint shape and afterwards returns to its initial
position where the motor will be stopped.
11. Put the marked workpiece against the guide
bor-der of the workpiece support and slide it
into the feed opening so that the marking "t" is
in alignment with the "0" position (correspond-
ing to the line projection of the laser). Note the
max. cutting length of 110 mm (4
each cutting process. Then, clamp the work-
piece by means of clamping device (no. 26 -
ill. 14) and position the two slides (no. 24 and
25) close to the workpiece (start of cutting see
chapter 10).

3.9 Feeding speed control

The ZAF 200 Vario offers the possibility to reduce
the feeding speed of the feeding motors to 50% of
the regular speed.
The setting is done by turning the potentiometer
top left on the control panel.

Setting up and maintenance

Switch off the main switch and lock it to
prevent from being inadvertently switched
on or pull out the mains plug before start-
ing on any maintenance work!

4.1 Tool change

The cutting tool delivered with the tenon cutting
ma-chine has been developed specially for this
kind of machine. It comprises cutter head (no. 37 -
ill. 18) and cutter ring (no. 38) which are equipped
with exchangeable carbide knives. Complicated and
time consuming resharpening is not necessary
since blunt knives either have to be reversed or
exchanged only. Proceed as follows:
1. Check whether pointer (no. 13 - ill. 9) indicates
the value "0" on scale (no. 14) of the segment
for rotating. If this is not the case, readjust the
position of the segment for rotating after having
3
/
loosened handle lever (no. 15).

2. Set mode select switch (no. 7 - ill. 5) to position
"1".
3. Open both slides (nos. 24 and 25 - ill. 14) at the
feed opening completely.
4. Move the cutting assembly to the center of the
feed opening by means of push-buttons (no. 10 -
ill. 5).
5. Insert locking rod (no. 39 - ill. 18) for arresting
the cutter head into the bore provided in the
cutter head, loosen clamping screw (no. 41) by
means of Allen key 10 mm (SW 10 / no. 40) and
remove clamping disk (no. 42).
