Step 4
Check that the transformer on the D-Vo power supply (if any) has the proper winding ratio and that is
suitably sized for the characteristics of the generator and of the regulator.
Should that not be the case, replace the transformer.
Otherwise, move to Step 5.
Step 5a
If the D-Vo is powered by an auxiliary winding or by the generator mains terminals (shunt), check
whether the residual magnetism of the machine is enough for self-excitation.
If at the rated speed the residual supply voltage at the P1-P2(-P3) terminals is lower than 7V, increase
the residual magnetism of the generator by following the instructions contained in the User and
Maintenance Manual of the generator.
Otherwise, move to Step 6.
Step 5b
If the D-Vo is powered by a PMG auxiliary exciter, check whether the PMG specifications are suitable
for the characteristics of the generator and of D-Vo.
Also check whether the PMG, at the rated speed of the generator, supplies an output voltage matching
the one indicated in the relevant specifications and suitable for the proper operation of D-Vo.
Should the PMG be unsuitable or malfunction, replace the PMG or refer to the relevant manual to identify
the failure and if needed repair it.
Otherwise, move to Step 6.
Step 6
Check that there are no blown fuses (external) along the power supply line.
If they are blown, replace them with new fuses having the same characteristics.
Otherwise, move to Step 7.
NOTE: should the new fuse immediately blow when the generator is restarted, directly skip to Step 14.
Step 7
Check whether D-Vo receives the excitation enabling command.
In particular, check that the START virtual LED, in the Monitor area of D-Vo Dashboard (Paragraph
7.3.5), is green. As an alternative, check that the PWR physical LED is flashing as described in
Paragraph 4.7.
If the START virtual LED is green and the STOP virtual LED is off, move to Step 8.
If they are both off:
Check whether the START contact (C1 by default) is working properly by following the procedure
described below:
1. fully disconnect D-Vo from the remainder of the system;
2. insert a jumper between C1 and M and power D-Vo from an external source, in accordance with the
Technical Data (Chapter 3);
3. check the colour of the START virtual LED.
If:
the LED is off: the excitation state remains forced to zero even when the START contact is closed;
move to Step 14.
the LED is on: the excitation state activates properly, with the START contact closed; therefore you
need to check for the proper operation of the START contact control system (a component not
supplied by Marelli), before moving to Step 8.
If they are both on (START green and STOP red):
Check whether the STOP contact (C2 by default) is working properly by following the procedure
described below:
1. fully disconnect D-Vo from the remainder of the system;
2. power D-Vo from an external source, in accordance with the Technical Data(Chapter 3);
3. check the colour of the STOP virtual LED.
If:
the LED is off: the STOP contact is not faulty. Check for the proper operation of the STOP contact
control system (a component not supplied by Marelli) before switching to Step 8.
the LED is on: the STOP contact is faulty; skip to STEP 14.
Step 8
Check the D-Vo settings. In particular, use D-Vo Dashboard to check that:
1. the rated voltage setting is consistent with the nameplate data of the generator;
2. the sensing settings are consistent with the nameplate data of the generator and with the D-Vo
specifications;
3. the voltage setpoint is the required operating setting.
Edit any incorrect settings.
Otherwise, move to Step 9.
Step 9
Check that the soft start ramp has not been set to a too high ramp time, giving the impression that the
generator self-excitation has failed.
Edit any incorrect settings.
Otherwise, move to Step 10.
