Only certified feeding devices (DP/PA couplers or DP/PA links) may be
used for feeding the intrinsically safe PROFIBUS. See the Ex--Confor-
mity Certificate in the section 1.10 "Certificates" for the requirements.
DP/PA-coupler or DP/PA link are supplied by a power supply unit with
SELV (Safety ExtraLow Voltage). This power supply must have ade-
quate reserves to be able to bridge temporary mains interruptions.
The number of devices that can be connected to a bus line can be de-
termined from the sum of maximum current consumptions of the con-
nected devices (according to standard at least 10 mA per device) and
the available current. The SIPAN 32 PROFIBUS PA normally requires
13 mA. A current reserve should be planned for safety reasons other-
wise there is a risk that a defective device overloads the bus due to
increased current consumption and the power supply and communica-
tion with all undisturbed users could break down. The size of the reser-
ves to be provided depends on the current increase in the event of an
error specified by the manufacturer. The electronic current limiter instal-
led additionally in the SIPAN 32 PROFIBUS PA guarantees a maximum
increase in the current consumption of 3 mA if the device is defective.

The FISCO model is a model of an intrinsically safe field bus.
Calculation of the external inductances and capacitances can be
omitted if this model is followed.
The PROFIBUS PA corresponds to this model and SIPAN analyzers
are certified according to FISCO. In addition, all used components such
as couplers, cable type, bus termination, branch etc. must be certified
according to FISCO.
The maximum cable length is 1000 m in E Ex ia.
