Process

This heating wedge welder for jointing plastic foils has basically two
functions:
• Controlling the welding process
• Monitoring all relevant parameters during the welding process
After the thermoplastic material and its thickness were entered, the
machine manages the proper jointing provided the user sets it up
correctly. The entire welding process is automatically controlled and
monitored.
Parameters applicable to the welded joint and traceability data on
the processed parts can be entered on the keypad.
For your convenience, the machine can be specifically costumized in
a Configuration Menu (see section 4.2).
The welder performs the welding process in the following manner:
• Insert the plastic foils to be jointed into the area of the welding
wedge, making sure that they overlap sufficiently lengthwise.
However, they must not touch the hot wedge yet.
• The display screen shows the nominal temperature of the welding
wedge; confirm it, possibly after adjusting it.
• The running speed is checked at the appropriate portentiometer
and adjusted, if needed.
• The jointing force exercised by the contour rollers and the tem-
perature of the foils on the surface that is going to be jointed
are measured using external meters. To save these data for the
welding operation in question, the traceability data fields "Ad-
ditional Data 1" and "Additional Data 2" are provided (see also
Sect. 4.4 and 4.7).
• The welder is then "pushed into" the foils, secured to the foils
using the clamping handle, and the welding wedge is switched
to its welding position.
• This results in the nip rollers nipping the plastic foils, thereby
pulling the welder along and jointing the foils.
• At the end of the foils or of the planned length of the joint, the
welding operation is finalized by releasing the clamping handle,
resetting the welding wedge to its rest position, and pressing the
STOP/RESET key.
