For your safety

O Read these instructions completely before working with the GPC cylinder.
O Keep these instructions in a location where they are accessible to all users at all
times.
O Always include the operating instructions when you pass the GPC cylinder on to
third parties.

Intended use
O The GPC cylinder may only be used within the limits listed in the technical data.
O The GPC cylinder is only intended to be used in industrial applications.
Intended use includes having read and understood these instructions, especially the
chapter "For your safety".
Improper use
It is considered improper use when the GPC cylinder

is used for any application not stated in these instructions, or
W
is used under operating conditions that deviate from those described in these
instructions.
Personnel qualifications
Assembly, disassembly, connection and commis-sioning require fundamental
knowledge of pneumat-ics, as well as knowledge of the applicable technical
terminology. For this reason, the device may only be assembled, disassembled,
connected and commis-sioned by qualified pneumatics personnel or by a person
under the control and supervision of such qualified personnel.
Qualified personnel are those who can recognize possible hazards and institute the
appropriate safety measures due to their professional training, knowledge, and
experience, as well as their under-standing of the relevant conditions pertaining to
the work to be done. Qualified personnel must observe the rules relevant to the
subject area.

General information

Observe the local regulations for workplace accident prevention and for
environmental protection.

The GPC cylinder must never be altered or modified from its original
configuration (not applicable to mounting of accessories).
W
The GPC cylinder may only be used in the applications and within the technical
data stated in this instruction manual.
W
Never use the GPC cylinder as a handle or to stand on. Do not place any loose
objects on it.
During assembly
W
The warranty only applies to the delivered configuration. The warranty will not
apply if the system is incorrectly assembled.
W
Always depressurise the relevant part of the system before installing or
removing the GPC cylinder.
W
When lifting the device, take steps to avoid damage or injury. Heavy items must
be carried by two people or by one person with lifting aids.
W
Make sure that installation of the GPC cylinder is complete before connecting
compressed air.

Secure the system against reconnection if installation is not complete and you
need to leave the system unattended.

Position cables where people cannot trip over them.
During commissioning

Check that all pneumatic connection ports are connected or plugged.

Make sure that the GPC cylinder and any attached system components are
properly secured.

When starting, increase the pressure slowly and use speed control.
In service
W
In certain applications and installation arrange-ments there may be a risk of
crush injuries. Always follow the site safety instructions.

Where the unit is installed vertically, a suspended load may drop if the
compressed air is shut off. This may result in injury. Always secure the area
under a suspended load.
Maintenance
W
Never use solvents or strong detergents. Never hose down the GPC cylinder with
water. Clean the GPC cylinder only with a cloth slightly moistened with water or
a mild detergent.
Waste disposal
W
Dispose of the device in accordance with local regulations.

Installation
The GPC cylinder is dimensioned for a particular application. It must never be altered
or modified from its original configuration.
W
Check that the maximum values for working pressure, load, torque or speed
stated in the technical specifications are not exceeded.
Risk of injury or damage due to uncontrolled rod movements!
If compressed air is connected while the cylinder is being installed, someone may
be injured or the system may be damaged.
O Make sure that the relevant part of the system is depressurised while the
cylinder is being installed.
O Make sure that the cylinder is completely installed before connecting
compressed air.
O Make sure that the compressed air supply cannot be reconnected, if the
system has to be left unattended during installation.
Watch out for suspended loads!
Where the unit is installed vertically, a suspended load may drop out of control if
the compressed air is shut off. This may result in injury.
O Always secure the area under a suspended load to prevent people entering it.
Risk of heavy objects!
Some configurations of the GPC cylinder are very heavy. Lifting them incorrectly
may cause injury.
O When lifting the cylinder, take steps to avoid damage or injury. Heavy cylinders
must be carried by two people or by one person with lifting aids.
Mounting cylinders
The GPC cylinder has 2 – 5 pair mounting holes for attachment to the surface.
1. Place the cylinder on a firm, flat surface. If neces-sary, fit any guide pins into their
corresponding holes.
2. Attach the cylinder to the surface with suitable screws or bolts, either from above
or from below. For optimum load support, use all mounting holes. At a minimum,
use the first and last pair of mounting holes.
a) Tighten the screws gradually to avoid strain. See table 1 for tightening torque.
