4. MACHINE CHARACTERISTICS
The Berna Bit machine is a precise key cutting machine
for copying single- and double-bladed mortice keys and
forward-cut keys.
It has one three-sided clamp.
4.1 KEY FAMILIES
The BERNA BIT machine can copy the following types of
keys:
Male or female single- or double-bladed mortice keys.
Forward-cut keys.
Cylinder or locker keys.

4.3 MAIN PARTS OF THE MACHINE
The main parts of the machine are described below:

1. Cutter: Made from high-speed steel (HSS).
2. Tracer: Specifically designed to read the key coding.

3. Clamps: The clamps can be rotated to one of three
sides. The various keys that can be secured in each side are
explained in a separate section of this manual.
4. Clamp handle: For ergonomic and safe opening and
closing of the clamps.
5. Clamp carriage assembly: Option to enable or disable
clamp rotation.
6. Rounded tip handle: Clamp rotation can be enabled by
pulling this outwards. Simply push the handle inwards to
disable clamp rotation.
7. and 8. Rotation lever and carriage assembly control lever.
The
machine
ergonomically
operator MUST hold the rotation lever (7)
and the carriage assembly control lever (8)
when cutting keys.
9. Tracer depth adjustment handle: This is used to adjust the
coding depth, with centesimal precision.
10. Brush: Used to reBERNA BIT any possible burr from the key
after the cutting process.
11. Swarf tray.
12. Tray for keys, accessories, etc.
13. Motor housing: Transmission from the motor takes place
via a belt that BERNA BITs the cutter and the brush. These
components are protected within the motor housing.
14. Transparent protective shield: Provides protection from the
cutter.
15. Motion control handles.
Always use the handles when lifting the
machine and never lift it using any other
parts.
16. Plug: For connection to a power supply.
The plug is fitted with a 6 A/220 V fuse
that protects against any potential faults
in the electrical circuit.
