1.3.5 Use as Directed
The AKMA series of synchronous servomotors is designed especially for drives for food and beverage, chemical,
l
pharmaceutical machinery, and similar with high requirements for hygienics and dynamics.
The use of AKMA motors is allowed in applications with indirect contact to food and beverage.
l
The motors are acceptable for use in food splash zones.
l
See (➜ Cable Properties and Connector Pinouts # 23).
l
The user is only permitted to operate the motors under the ambient conditions which are defined in this
l
documentation.
The use of AKMA motors is allowed in environments with cleaning agents with respect to the defined conditions in
l
(➜ Hygienic Design # 19).
The AKMA series of motors is exclusively intended to be driven by drives under speed and / or torque control.
l
The motors are installed as components in electrical apparatus or machines and can only be commissioned and
l
put into operation as integral components of such apparatus or machines.
The holding brakes are designed as standstill brakes and are not suited for repeated operational braking.
l
The conformity of the servo system to the standards mentioned in the EC Declaration of Conformity is only
l
guaranteed when the components (drive, motor, cables etc.) that are used have been supplied by Kollmorgen.
See (➜ Approvals # 136).
l
1.3.6 Prohibited Use
The use of the AKMA motors is prohibited directly on mains supply networks.
l
AKMA motors should not be used in applications with continuous, direct contact with food.
l
Standard AKMA cables are not sufficient for installation in food splash zones.
l
Standard AKMA motors should not be applied in explosion-prone, hazardous environments.
l
Standard AKMA motors should not be used in clean room applications.
l
AKMA motors should not be mounted vertically with shaft upwards to avoid harboring dirt, soil, and liquids.
l
Commissioning the motor is prohibited in the EU if the machine in which it was installed:
l
Does not meet the requirements of the EC Machinery Directive.
l
Does not comply with the EMC Directive.
l
Does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive.
l
Built-in holding brakes without further equipment must not be used to ensure functional safety.
l
Description
Handle with special care.
Every scratch of the anodized aluminum surface can cause galvanic
l
corrosion and related contamination.
To ensure hygienic requirements, check motor and cable before
l
mounting into application to be sure that there are no scratches, which
could hide dangerous pathogens.
Hidden pathogens in scratches could lead to contamination of produced
l
product.
See (➜ Galvanic Corrosion # 20).
