be installed and operated by qualified
personnel only. Make sure you observe
the warning and safety information
in its entirety during installation and
operation, as well as while performing
maintenance and repair work on the
equipment. The regulations, applicable
laws, occupational safety requirements
and environmental protection laws
valid in your country must be observed.
In particular, the conditions described
under Item 17 of the KEMA EC type-
examination certificate, "Special Condi-
tions for Safe Use," must be observed.
It is important that all personnel using
the equipment understand this warning
and safety information, and have access
to the relevant documents at all times.
Furthermore, the warning and safety
information supplied with any electrical
equipment connected, such as peripheral
devices, must be observed as well.

Intended Use
The compact scales in the EC1XS-......-L
series are designed for mass determination
in zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 hazardous areas.
The scale consists of a weighing platform
and a display and control unit (evaluation
unit). An external power supply is required
for operation of the scale (option YPS05-ZD
for installation in the non-hazardous area,
or YPS05-XD for the hazardous area).
In addition to the basic weighing function,
the scale is equipped with programs
for toggling weight units and gross/net
weighing. Weight values can be transferred
through a Zener barrier (e.g., option
YDI05-Z) over an RS-232 port (built-in)
or an RS-422 port (optional) to a printer
or computer outside the hazardous area.
A foot switch can also be connected to
the scale.
The display and control unit (evaluation
unit) comes with a separate operating
manual.
Make sure all safety instructions are
observed.
Note:
Read the installation and operating
instructions carefully before connecting
and operating the EC1XS.-......-L.
Keep the instruction manuals in a safe
place.

General Provisions for Installing
Explosion-protected EC1XS.-......-L
Models in Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22
Hazardous Areas
Model EC1XS.-......-L scales meet the
requirements of EC Directive 94/9/EC
for Group II, Category 2G or 2D devices
and are labeled in accordance with
EC type-examination certificate
KEMA04ATEX1279 (see the scale
operating instructions).
Furthermore, EC1XS.-......-L models
meet the requirements of EC Directives
for electromagnetic compatibility
and electrical safety (see "Declaration
of Conformity" in the scale operating
instructions).
– The area of use for EC1XS.-......-L mod-
els and accessories (power supplies,
interface converter) is defined in the
type-examination certificate. All
restrictions listed in the type-examina-

Operation outside of these restrictions
is not permitted, and is considered use

in forfeiture of all claims under the
manufacturer's warranty.
– When the equipment is operated in a
hazardous area, the national laws and
regulations applicable at the place of
use must be observed (e.g., EN60079-14
(gases); EN50281-1-2 (dusts)). Ask your
supplier for information on the legal
regulations applicable in your country.
– The EC1XS.-......-L is may not be used
in the medical industry (as a medicinal
product).
– Whether the equipment can be used
in a given area containing potentially
explosive agents must be checked on
a case-by-case basis.
– If the equipment housing is opened by
anyone other than persons authorized
by Minebea Intec, this will negate its con-
formity with regulations governing use
in the stated hazardous areas and result
in forfeiture of all claims under the
manufacturer's warranty.
– Installation of the system must be
performed by a certified electrician who
is familiar with the assembly, start-up
and operation of both the system and
the relevant guidelines and regulations,
and has the required qualifications for
performing the installation. If you need
assistance, contact your Minebea Intec dealer
or the Minebea Intec Service Center.
– Avoid generating static electricity.
The weighing platform is connected to
the display and control unit via the
