8. Care instructions
Before cleaning and especially before washing (handling
liquids) your e-bike, make sure that the Bosch eBike
System is switched off and the battery charger is removed!
The e-bike must not be cleaned with a pressure washer
!
or steam cleaner. We recommend washing the e-bike by
hand with the battery removed. In this case you should
cover the electric contacts in the downtube. Bosch offers
a protective cap for this purpose. Always close the cap of
the charging port before washing your ebike.
Cleaning:
• Wash the e-bike with water and mild detergent using a soft brush or
sponge. Never use aggressive solvents such as ethanol or acetone on
sensitive components and surfaces (tooth belt, paint, plastics, leather,
rubber) to avoid damaging these parts of your e-bike.
• The Gates Carbon Drive™ tooth belt is cleaned with water and a soft
brush and doesn't have to be greased.
• You can clean the battery and the electric contacts of battery and
frame with a damp cloth. Make sure that the contacts are dry before
you re-insert the battery.
• When cleaning is complete, dry your e-bike with a soft cotton or
micro-fibre cloth. Use different cloths for delicate surfaces (frame, fork,
leather) and for unsensitive/exposed parts (wheels, tyres, drive train)
to avoid scratching your e-bike.
• Clean the brake discs with brake cleaner fluid or isopropyl alcohol. Don't
use foaming detergents for the brake discs. Don't touch the brake discs
or brake pads with bare hands, wear disposable gloves instead.
Winter operation:
• In winter take special care of your e-bike as de-icing salt might be used
on the roads. Free your e-bike from salt contained in splash water or
snow regularly to prevent corrosion.
Paint care:
• We recommend preserving painted surfaces with car wax or sealant
once a year (does not apply to matt paints).
• Make sure to use a product without abrasive particles for mint or good
condition paintwork. Products containing abrasive particles should only
be used to refresh older, highly weathered paint (does not apply to
matt paints). Before you consider this option, clean your e-bike thoro-
ughly. This might be enough to recover the original shine.
Leather care:
• If your e-bike is equipped with a Brooks leather saddle, please refer to
the Brooks care instructions supplied with your e-bike.
• Wipe off any residue of care products or waxes completely with a soft
cloth and allow the product to evaporate for several hours before the
next ride. Unsuitable products may damage the leather or dissolve the
dye which could then stain your clothes.
Tyres:
• To optimize tyre life, keep the air pressure within the recommended
margins (chapter 7.6 on page 75). Check the tyres for sharp objects
that got stuck in the tread and remove these contaminants to stop
damage progression. During long-term storage, avoid direct sunlight
and check tyre pressure regularly. If you store your e-bike suspended,
tyre pressure is insignificant.
