3.2.2. Start cutting
Press the electric die stock against the pipe until the dies have started cutting.
Lubricate with ROLLER thread-cutting material several times during thread
cutting.
3.2.3. Return and removal of the electric die stock
When using ROLLER'S Central quick-change die heads, the conical pipe thread
is finished when the dies are flush with the end of the pipe. Release the safety
inching switch (9) immediately. Set the rotation direction lever (8) accordingly
– only actuate the rotation direction lever at standstill. Switch the electric die
stock on at the safety inching switch (9). The quick-change die head turns off
the thread. Set the rotation direction lever again accordingly with the unit at
standstill. The return is omitted with ROLLER'S Rola quick-change die heads.
ROLLER'S Rola Automatik quick-change die heads open automatically at
standard thread length (Fig. 5).
3.3. Handling the manually inside clamping nipple holder Nipparo ⅜ – 2"
To clamp a pipe section with the manually inside clamping nipple holder ROLL-
ER'S Nipparo the head of the manually inside clamping nipple holder is splayed
by turning the spindle with a tool (e.g. screwdriver). This may only be done with
the pipe inserted. Make sure that no shorter nipples than allowed are cut with
the manually inside clamping nipple holder (Fig. 3).
4. Maintenance
WARNING
Notwithstanding the maintenance described below, it is recommended to have
the electric die stock subjected to regular inspection of electrical devices in
accordance with EN 62638:2010-08 (VDE 0702) at least once a year by qual-
ified specialists or by an authorised ROLLER customer service workshop.
4.1. Maintenance
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance work!
Clean the ROLLER'S King 1¼ and King 2 electric die stocks after every use,
especially the die head holder (2), the locking lever (12) and the quick-change
die heads with dies. Check the smooth action of the ROLLER'S Rola quick-
change die heads opening mechanism. Clean heavily soiled metal parts, then
protect against rust.
Only clean plastic parts (e.g. housings) with a mild soap and damp cloth. Do
not use household cleaners These often contain chemicals which can damage

the plastic parts. Never use petrol, turpentine, thinner or similar products to
clean plastic parts. Make sure that liquids never get inside the electric die stock.
Never immerse the electric die stock in liquid.
4.2. Inspection / maintenance
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before carrying out maintenance or repair work!
This work may only be performed by qualified personnel.
The gears of the ROLLER'S King 1¼ and ROLLER'S King 2 electric die stocks
are maintenance-free. They run in a life-long grease filling and therefore need
no lubrication. The motors have carbon brushes. These wear and must there-
fore be checked and renewed from time to time. Only use original ROLLER
carbon brushes.
4.3. Changing the locking lever (12) (Fig. 2)
Unscrew the two screws next to the locking lever (12). Remove the locking
lever, spring and parallel pin. Remove any burr from the groove. Assemble in
reverse order. Check the function and smooth action!
4.4. Changing the dies on ROLLER'S Central quick-change die heads
Clamp ROLLER'S Central quick-change die head vertically in a vice, loosen
the screws, remove the cover, remove the dies. Knock new dies into the slits
vertically from above using a rubber hammer - die 1 in slit 1 etc., chamfer facing
downwards. The backs of the dies must be flush with the edge of the body. Fit
the cover, tighten the screws only hand tight at first, knock the dies outwards
with a copper mandrel or hard wood wedge until the backs of the dies are
touching the edge of the cover. Caution! Do not damage the teeth! Now tighten
the screws firmly!
4.5. Changing the dies on ROLLER'S Rola Automatik quick-change die heads
Clamp the ROLLER'S Rola Automatik quick-change die head vertically in a
vice, close the clamping bar. Loosen the screws, lift the cover with the setting
ring and remove the dies. Insert new dies, die 1 in slit 1, etc., groove of the die
facing upwards, chamfer facing downwards. The backs of the dies must be
flush with the edge of the body. Fit the cover with setting ring. Make sure that
the scale mark at the edge of the cover points to the body. Tighten the screws
again. Check the function by opening and closing the die head several times,
see 3.1.2.
Scale: Stroke on stroke means standard thread size. The signs + and - can be
found next to the scale mark at the edge of the body. If the cover is turned
slightly towards +, the thread-Ø is greater, towards – smaller.
