2.1
Intended use
The eccentric worm-drive pumps are used for transferring low to high-viscosity, pasty, still
free-flowing media. They can be used for applications in the food industry, pharmaceutical,
cosmetical and chemical products as well as petro-chemicals.
Depending on the product to be transferred, different materials and drive motors are used.
Eccentric worm-drive pumps can be driven by a range of different motors.
Electrical commutator or three-phase motors and compressed air motors are available as
pump drives.
In an environment subject to explosion hazard, pumps and motors are used which have
been checked and approved according to the ATEX Directive.
For the pumping of food in the EC pumps (and accessories) are used that are conform with
the general requirements of the Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 of 27 October 2004 on
materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. In other countries the na-
tional directives are to be observed. In the US pumps (and accessories) are used that are
FDA (CFR 21 Part – Food and Drugs) or 3A approved.
According to the design, the pumps may be used as mobile devices or they may be
permanently installed in plants. Manual as well as remote operation is possible.
During stationary use you must constantly watch the pump.
The version with left/right operation may only be used with three-phase motors that allow
the direction of rotation to be reversed.
The eccentric worm-drive pumps must not be exposed to the weather.
2.1.1
Foreseeable misuse
Pump and accessory material must always be suitable for the product to be transferred
(see resistance chart). Observe the maximum admissible viscosity of the product to be
transferred.
Observe the internal operating instructions when changing the liquid. Take possible chemi-
cal reactions and the resulting health hazards and material damage into account.
Only operate the motors in conjunction with the pumps in the corresponding liquids.
Non-observance may result in damage to the pump and the motor and operator injury.
Pumps (and accessories) for conveying food are suitable for multiple contact with all food
categories provided a contact time is not exceeded by 24 h and a contact temperature of
40° C, including a brief heating to a maximum of 85° C.
The eccentric worm-drive pumps and the accessories are not intended to be used by
uninstructed persons or by persons with limited physical, sensory or intellectual capabilities,
unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or receive instructions
from that person on how the device is to be used.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.
2.2
Symbols and signs
Safety instructions are marked by
a safety sign and
a danger warning
This will help you to identify potential hazards, to avoid risks and to operate the
device safely.
In addition, the operating instructions contain instructions for hazard avoidance.
Danger warnings are classified in three categories according to the severity of a
potential injury. Different signal words are used according to the severity.
