The SWX stationary weld fume collection system
consists of three primary components: extraction
arm, blower assembly, and filter cabinet.
The extraction arm uses locking joints and flex-
ible tubing to ensure the hood is placed near the
source of the fumes. Captured fumes are drawn
into the extraction arm, through the blower hous-
ing, and discharged into the filter cabinet
Fumes discharged into the filter cabinet are
filtered through a mesh outlet screen (spark ar-
restor). (The mesh screen provides protection
and prevents large sparks from passing into the
filter housing.) The fumes then pass through the
high-efficiency, nanofiber media cartridge where
particles are filtered from the air. Cleaned air
flows through the center of the filter and dis-
charges through the front of the unit.
If the filter cabinet is a self-cleaning model
(SWX-S), a semi-automatic filter cleaning system
removes particles from the filter. When the Filter
Cleaning switch is pressed, compressed air re-
moves particles from the filter. The particles then
fall into a collection tray at the bottom of the unit.
A filter gauge indicates when it is time to replace
the filter or clean it (SWX-S model only). (The
filter in the SWX-D models cannot be cleaned
and must be replaced when dirty.)
The fume extraction system is controlled by a
wall-mounted power switch that is connected to
the blower assembly. Each blower assembly is
controlled independently.
The weld fume collector comes partially as-
sembled and can be used with the 3 − 4.5 ft (0.9
− 1.4 m) telescoping extraction arm or the stan-
dard 7 ft (2.1 m), 10 ft (3 m), or 12 ft (3.7 m) ex-
tension extraction arms.
