9. Start-up

a) Information on the DCF reception
The weather station is able to receive the so-called DCF signal and to
evaluate it.
It is a signal which is broadcast from a sender in Mainflingen (near
Frankfurt am Main). Its range is up to 1500 km and, under ideal
reception conditions, even up to 2000 km.
Inter alia the DCF signal contains the exact time of day (accuracy is
theoretically 1 second in 1 million years) and the date.
Of course, the complicated adjustment of summer and winter time is not
necessary.
The first DCF reception attempt takes place automatically during the
initial start-up, after the weather station has recognised the outdoor
sensor.
Important for a faultless recognition of the DCF signal:
Do not place the weather station next to electronic devices (television sets, mobile phones, computers
etc.) and not near cables, power sockets or metal parts.
Bad reception can also be expected e.g. with metallised insulating glass windows, reinforced concrete
constructions, coated special wallpaper or in cellar rooms.
During the reception attempt the weather station switches the display off for approx. 10 minutes to avoid
interferences from the background illumination of the display and the display electronics (for this,
please also refer to chapter 9. d). Do not move the weather station during that time; do not press any
buttons on the weather station or IR remote control!
The automatic synchronisation is performed daily at 02.03 am and 03.03 am. One successful reception attempt per
day is enough to keep the deviation of the integrated quartz clock below 1 second.
At positions where a reception is difficult to accomplish (e.g. in a building with reinforced concrete or
in a cellar room), the time and date can be set manually. Turn off the DCF reception prior to this, see
chapter 15. k).
You may also want to perform another reception attempt for the DCF signal. This is described in chapter
15. k).
b) Inserting the batteries in the IR remote control
Push the small locking lever of the battery compartment (23) to the side (observe illustration on the rear of the IR
remote control "
PUSH") and then remove the battery holder from the IR remote control.
Following that, insert a battery of type "CR2025" in the battery holder. Pay attention to the correct polarity. In the
battery holder there is a small "+" symbol; the positive pole of the battery must point toward the same side.
After that, put the battery holder with the inserted battery back into the IR remote control. Thereby, the positive pole
of the battery points to bottom side of the IR remote control.
Upon delivery a battery might already be inserted. A small transparent plastic strip protects the battery
from deep discharge; remove the strip carefully.
