or elastic belts. The belt must be correctly fitted and may not hang loose; the eyelet must not be
positioned too low (the distance between the eyelet and L1 must be longer than the length of the
runner L2, see Fig. A).
- Squatting or hanging a leg over a rung is not permitted without additional guy ropes.
- No objects, such as tool bags, are permitted to hang in front of the body under the runner.
- Special care must be taken within the first two metres when ascending or descending, as the user
is not protected from an impact with the ground. In general an unobstructed height of at least
6 metres under the feet of the user should be ensured.
- In the case of more than one person climbing the structure, at least 6 metres should be allowed
between the feet of the person above and the head of the person below.
- The activation of the runner release function or tampering with the runner during ascent or descent
may compromise the safe operation of the braking mechanism.
- The runner cannot be used for positioning workplace installations. An appropriate, separate system
is required for this purpose.
- All points on the fixed guide where the runner may accidentally become disengaged and where a risk
of falling exists, must be fitted with an end fastening.
- The runner can be operated at ambient temperatures not exceeding -40°C and+60°C.
- In the event that the equipment is sold in another country, the operating instructions, inspection
sheet, maintenance and repair documentation must be provided to the buyer in the language of that
country.
- In the event that a SKYLOTEC SPEED-HS-50 or Hailo-H-50 (alminium) system is retrofitted on an
already existing ladder installation, and in the case of doubt, e.g. smaller cross-section, rail and rung
connections with lower load bearing capacity, corrosion or poor an choring onto the structure, safe
operation must be guaranteed in compliance with technical regulations and engineering planning and
assessment. In the case of a fall, the entire system must be able to support the dynamic load of 6kN
resulting from the fall, as well as a static load of 15kN.
5. Inspection
Perform a visual and functional inspection before each use.
5.1 Visual inspections:
- Check rails, ladder attachments and the SPEED-H for complete and perfect condition.
- Ensure that rail attachments are firm and that the distance between the tracks is as follows:
o Hailo H-50 and SKYLOTEC SPEED-HS-50: max. 4.0 mm
5.2 Functional inspections:
- The SPEED-H moves freely when pulled horizontally (back) and stops when pulled down.
- Spring-operated catch and contact pressure of rubber rollers.
- The two rubber wheels must turn freely when ascending or descending with the SPEED-H.
Do not use the device in the event that the slightest fault is discovered during testing.
Any defects must be inspected or repaired in SKYLOTEC authorised workshops. The SPEED-H must
be inspected by an expert at least once a year and the test results documented on the test sheet.
6. Repairs
- For warranty purposes, repairs are to be performed only by the manufacturer.
- Only original manufacturer spare parts may be used.
7. Maintenance
- Air dry damp harness and SPEED-H (do not use heat source).
- Dirty harness and/or SPEED-H should be brushed or cleaned with lukewarm water or mild detergent,
then rinsed. Other cleaning agents are not suitable.
- Do not use lubricant; the bearings are permanently lubricated ball bearings, lightly oil joints if
necessary.
- Well maintained safety equipment and devices last longer!
8. Storage
- Dry damp harness and the SPEED-H before storing.
- Store in a dry place, protected from light, do not store near heat sources.
- Do not place harness and the SPEED-H in contact with harsh substances (e.g. oils, greases, acids
or other chemical substances).
- Transport in a tool box or bag.
