an enclosure or with a shock absorber rope attached to an anchor point).
CAUTION: LIFE-THREATENING DANGER
Extensions by means of connecting ropes or additional carabiner hooks are not permitted.
3.4 Using the fall arrester system
- When climbing, lean slightly into the runner (horizontal pull = back support) (Fig. 1), thus keeping
the runner unlocked.
- Climb up or down in a uniform manner, pulling the runner with you.
- By manually pushing up to lock the device and assuming a sitting/ hanging position in the harness,
you can quickly and comfortably find an ergonomic resting position.
- NOTE: The fall arrester device must be locked before hanging or sitting in the harness.
- The locked fall arrester can be easily released by lifting the carabiner hook.
- If this is not possible, the emergency unlocking device can be turned sideways (Fig. 10) and the
runner clamp released by pulling the catch upwards (Fig. 11).
- Avoid exerting diagonal pressure from the side on the SPEED-H mechanism.
- When working in or to the side of the climb path, always use an additional safety device with PSE
complying with EN 358 (guy rope) or EN 354/355 (shock absorber rope).
3.5 Release of the runner after a fall by means of the emergency unlocking system
The runner can become stuck on the rail and cannot be moved after a fall due to the eccentric shape
of the clamp. In this case, proceed as follows:
- Swivel the emergency unlocking device to the side (Fig. 10).
- Turn the catch outwards above the top fastening point (Fig. 11).
- Pull the carabiner upwards firmly to release the runner.
- Position the catch once again below the emergency unlocking device so that the device swings back
automatically.
(NOTE: Use the emergency unlocking device only in emergencies when the runner cannot be released
in any other way.)
4. Safety rules
CAUTION: LIFE-THREATENING DANGER
The SPEED-H carabiner hook must be fitted directly into the front middle suspension eyelet of the har-
ness for both vertical and horizontal guide rails and must never be extended under any circumstances.
Only use properly installed guide rails. When climbing be particularly careful of track joins and ladder
attachments. Failure to observe the safety rules may result in death.
- Do not continue to use safety devices in the presence of minor faults.
- Immediately refrain from using damaged safety equipment, devices or fittings, or those which have
been involved in falls. Have an expert or the manufacturer check the device.
- Modifications or repairs by the customer are not permitted.
- The harness is part of the personal safety equipment and should be used only by one particular
person.
- The safety equipment and device should only be used by persons who are confident with the material
and are trained on the dangers.
- Accessories by other manufacturers may be used only with the approval of SKYLOTEC GmbH and
must not impact on the reliability and safety of the system (see Point 10).
- Clothing and shoes must be suited to the application and weather conditions.
- Adjust the harness in accordance with personal size and clothing.
- Use only if you are in good personal health.
- Protect safety ropes and harnesses, as well as fall arresters and guy ropes, from welding flames and
sparks, acids, leaching solutions and sharp edges.
- Guidelines BGR 198/199 of the Occupational Health and Safety Association, as well as the local or
sector accident prevention regulations, are applicable in Germany. The corresponding national occu-
pational safety regulations are applicable in other countries.
- The weight of the user, including clothing and equipment, must be within the nominal load specified
for the fall protection runner.
4.1 Warnings:
Even in the case of EN 361 certified safety harnesses, safety risks exist under certain circumstances
and are aggravated by the incorrect use or combination of unsuitable equipment. It is, therefore,
essential to observe the following:
- No extension is permitted between the fall arrester device and the harness.
- Use a harness with suspension eyelets fitted the closest possible. Do not use harnesses with straps
