CHAPTER 10. DISASSEMBLY AND REASSEMBLY
- As for the detachment of the mower from the
tractor.
- Remove the belt covers and other necessary parts
to check the belts and other components for
wear, damage, inspect or service each part if
required.
10-1. Gear Box
a. Pull off the roll pin from the universal joint of
the drive shaft to release the input shaft.
b. Remove the drive pulley.
c. Detach the gear box from the gear box and drain
oil by removing the drain plug.
Note:
Remember or write down the location of the dis-
assembled parts, especially shimming position
and the number of inserted shims.
d. Inspect the disassembled parts for items men-
tioned below and replace defective parts with
new ones.
- Abnormal wear and flaws of bevel gears.
- Wear or abnormal deformation of the oil seals:
as oil seals are consumable parts, disassembled
ones should be replaced with new ones.
- Wear and abnormal noise of bearings.
e. Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly.
Backlash adjustment should be done in accor-
dance with the following criteria.
10-2. Backlash adjustment
a. Prepare the special jig as shown to measure the
backlash at R25 mm of the output shaft.

b. Place reassembled gear box sideways and lock
the input shaft in order to prevent the shaft from
turning. (The input shaft has a spline end.)
c. Install the special jig on the output shaft end.
d. Measure the backlash at 25 mm radius circum-
ference and correct it if required by shimming.
Standard value: 0.3 - 0.5 mm (including spline
play between respective bevel gear and shaft)
