7. Installation and connection
The connection cables must not be bent or squeezed. This can result in malfunctions,
short circuits or defects in the device.
Make sure you do not damage any cables or power lines when drilling holes in the wall
or fastening screws.
The GSM switching module is delivered with a weatherproof casing. The casing is
rated IP66. As long as the provided cable glands are used, IP54 is ensured.
For outdoor use, the GSM switching module has to be properly installed in the provided
casing.
This product generates high frequency. Never operate it close to medical equipment
(e.g. pacemakers) or medical institutions (e.g. hospitals).
7.1 Notes on the installation place
Find a suitable installation place and check the reception to make sure that the device is positioned
properly (see chapter "7.2 Checking the reception quality at the installation place").
A suitable installation place for the GSM switching module has the following characteristics:
• vibration-free
• no direct sunlight
• no obstacles that might reduce the reception quality
Select an installation place which is not shielded by, for example, reinforced concrete
walls, metallised mirrors or metal shelves. There should be no devices with strong
electrical fields, such as mobile telephones, radios or electrical motors, close to the
device. This applies to the aerial in particular.
7.2 Checking the reception quality at the installation place
To make sure the installation place is suitable, we recommend checking the reception quality before
installing the device. For that purpose, insert the SIM card intended for use with your GSM switching
module in a mobile phone.
Use the mobile phone to check the reception quality at the installation place.
Observe the operating instructions of your mobile phone a well.
