Long-term hair removal based on eHPL

technology
Silk'n Infinity™ is a light-based electrical device for long-term hair removal
developed for home use. It combines the proven Home Pulsed Light™ techno-
logy with galvanic energy.
The Silk'n Infinity™ first uses galvanic energy, which produces a micro current
on the surface of the skin before the light pulses are emitted. This causes the
pores in the skin to open, enabling the following light pulse to penetrate and
directly affect the root of the hair. The device therefore works more effectively
and reduces the risk of skin burns on darker skin types in particular.

How can light remove hair?

Light-based hair removal uses selective photothermolysis in which optical
energy is used to prevent hair growth. In order to achieve this thermal effect,
the hair shaft needs to selectively absorb light energy and transform it into
heat. This selectivity is achieved when optical energy that is delivered to the
tissue is mostly absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft, while the skin and
surrounding tissue remain cool.
Melanin is the pigment in the hair shaft that is responsible for absorbing the
light, which generates the heat that eventually prevents hair growth. The more
melanin present in the hair (i.e., the darker the hair color), the more light that
can be absorbed and the more effectively the light can eliminate the hair.
For this reason the device is only suitable for white, blond or otherwise light-
colored hair to a certain extent.
