Blind Spot Monitor with
Rear Traffic Alert
HOW IT WORKS
The "Blind Spot Monitor" with Rear Traffic Alert warns of vehicles in the blind spot and behind
the vehicle.
SYSTEM INFORMATION
• The Blind Spot Monitor works only at speeds above approx. 15 km/h and will be
deactivated below around 6 mph or temporarily during tight curves.
• Two radar sensors at the rear detect vehicles behind the vehicle up to approx. 20 meters
and in the blind spot to the side of it
• A yellow signal LED in the side mirror on the corresponding side of the vehicle lights up
to indicate when a vehicle has been detected.
• The system only warns of vehicles which could present a danger when changing lanes
as a result of their speed. This is the case in the following situations:
If the vehicle is being passed by another vehicle
o
When passing another vehicle and the difference in speed between the two
o
vehicles is no more than about 6 mph. There is no signal if the passing speed is
clearly faster. The Rear Traffic Alert also operates when backing up. It detects
approaching traffic and informs the driver with a warning sound.
• The Rear Traffic Alert system can also intervene with automatic braking to prevent
or reduce damage from a collision. Automatic braking can occur while reversing at
speeds of 1.6 -11 km/h and can be overridden by the driver using the gas or brake
pedal. Following an automatic braking intervention the system prevents the car from
moving for up to 2 seconds. About 10 seconds must pass before the system can
brake automatically again. This is only an emergency feature. As such, the braking
intervention may be very harsh and the driver should not rely on it.

especially when visibility is
impaired by the B-column or poor
weather.
• Can help to prevent accidents when
maneuvering out of parking spaces
in unclear situations.
