Front Assist
HOW IT WORKS
The "Front Assist" area monitoring system detects critical distance situations and helps to
reduce the stopping distance.
SYSTEM INFORMATION
• Front Assist is a component of the adaptive cruise control ACC, although it operates
independently, and even when the distance and cruise control system is switched off
• A radar sensor monitors the area in front of the vehicle
• There is a two-stage reaction in case of critical approach to another vehicle or an
obstacle
• First of all, the system provides audible and visual warning signals indicating the
danger of collision; in parallel to this, the vehicle is prepared for emergency braking
(brake pads are moved up to the brake discs, brake assist system is made more
sensitive)
• If the driver does not react to the warning, there is a brief brake jolt, and the
responsiveness of the brake assist system is increased further
• When the driver now presses the brake pedal, full braking power is available
immediately
• If the braking is not strong enough, Front Assist increases the brake pressure to the
required amount
