General prescriptions for the use of the SOFT STARTER:
- The SOFT STARTER device must carry out a voltage ramp starting or a constant current starting
- The SOFT STARTER device must not carry out a current ramp starting or a torque ramp starting
- Minimum peak current Vs = 60% Vn
- Minimum peak current Is = 400% In
- Maximum acceleration ramp time - 3 seconds
- Maximum deceleration time equal to twice the maximum acceleration time
- Deceleration method either by freewheel or by voltage ramp, not by braking
- Always make sure that the soft-starter is off once the assembly start phase has completed.
In case of malfunctioning of a system featuring a soft starter of inverter start, verify, if possible, the operation of the electric pump
assembly by connecting it directly to the grid (or with another device).
For any other information not contained in this manual, please refer to the Use and Maintenance Manual of the electric motor
manufacturer.
Power supply voltage
WARNING
Check to make sure that the frequency and voltage values on the data plate of the electric motor (for either star or delta
connections) correspond to those of the electricity main. Particularly make sure that the delta connection always has the lower of the
two possible powering voltage values (vice versa for the star connection) and that the ratio between the two voltage values is 1,73.
A ± 10% deviation from the power supply voltage is permitted for motors with 230/400 V or 400/700 V data plate voltage ratings, since 220 and 240,
380 and 415 V ± 5% voltage ratings can also be used.
Sense of rotation
WARNING
The wrong sense of rotation can damage the motor since the power input and axial thrust of the pump could be sensibly higher than
forecast.
Find the correct sense of rotation (clockwise for the pump viewed from the coupling side or for the motor viewed from the fan side)
by means of the following operations:
1) fill the pump and pipe with water;
2) shut the delivery gate valve and start the electric pump for a few seconds;
3) if the sense of rotation must be reversed, disconnect the mains power supply and switch two of the three phases with each other.
Phase unbalance
Check the power input of each phase. Unbalances must not exceed 5%.
If higher values are found (which could be caused by the motor but also by the electricity main), check the power inputs of the other two
motor-mains connection combinations, taking care to avoid reversing the sense of rotation. The best connection will be the one with the
least power input difference among the phases. Note that if the highest power input is always detected on the same phase of the line,
the main cause of imbalance will be due to the mains supply.
ELECTRIC PUMPS EQUIPPED WITH CONDUCTIVITY PROBES
WARNING
The conductivity probe is installed in the oil chamber and detects any water infiltrations. If the electric panel is equipped with a conductivity detector,
this will activate when the electrical resistance is less than 30 kΩ, owing to the presence of water. In order to detect conductivity, the terminal
connected to the probe (1.5 mm
The conductivity detector is generally used for closing an alarm circuit should water be detected in the oil chamber or in the motor. The alarm can be
of the luminous and/or acoustic type.
ELECTRIC PUMPS EQUIPPED WITH CONDUCTIVITY PROBES
WARNING
All the electric pumps (version K...-E) are equipped with thermal probes as part of the standard supply (terminals
marked by symbols 5 and 6). It is obligatory to connect them to a suitable power cutout device. The probes can be
installed in series with the low voltage operating circuit of the coil of the remote control switch. The motor can be started
automatically.
Thermal probes are normally closed bimetallic circuit-breakers installed in the motor windings. Once the temperature rises above 155°C (311°F),
they open and cut off the power circuit of the coil of the remote control switch, thus stopping the electric pump.
The coil is only energized again when the probes have cooled (114°C / 237°F). The max capacity of the probe contact is 400VA with 250V max and
5A max.
24V - 1.5A power supply is recommended.
