•
Maximum battery life and best operating characteristics can only be achieved if the battery is stored
and charged at an ambient temperature of between +15 °C and +25 °C. Charging the battery at an
ambient temperature below +5 °C or above +40 °C is not recommended.
•
During charging, the charger and the battery may become warm. This is normal and is not a sign of
problems.
•
To prevent overheating, do not charge the batteries in direct sunlight, when the weather is hot or near
heat sources.
•
Do not charge the battery in a cabin or container. The battery must be in a well-ventilated area during
charging.
•
If the battery is defective, electrolyte could escape and cause damage to adjacent components.
Inspect the adjacent components and clean or replace them, as necessary.
•
Do not burn batteries even if they have serious damage or can no longer be charged. Batteries can
explode in the fire.
•
To help cool the battery after use, avoid using the charger or battery under a metal shelter or in a
trailer without thermal insulation.
•
When the battery is not in use, store it away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other
small metal objects that could cause a short circuit between its terminals. A short circuit between the
terminals of the battery may cause another short circuit, resulting in a fire or explosion.
Additional safety precautions for battery chargers
•
Keep the charger away from rain or moisture. The ingress of water into a charger increases the risk of
an electric shock.
•
Charge the Li ion batteries with the voltages specified in the technical data. to avoid the risk of fire
and explosion.
•
Keep the charger clean. Soiling of the charger poses a risk of an electric shock.
•
Inspect the charger, cable and plug before every use. Do not use the charger if you notice any signs
of damage. Do not open the charger yourself and have it repaired only by qualified personnel and
only with OEM spare parts. Damaged chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of an electric
shock.
•
Do not operate the charger on easily combustible surfaces (e.g. paper, textiles, etc.) or in combustible
environments. There is a risk of fire due to the charger becoming warm during charging.
•
Supervise children to ensure that they do not play with the charger.
•
Children and persons who, due to their physical, sensory or mental abilities or inexperience or lack of
knowledge, are unable to operate the charger safely must not use this charger without supervision or
instruction by a responsible person. There is otherwise a risk of incorrect operation and injury.
1.4.2 Further safety precautions
DANGER
Live parts
Serious injuries or even death due to electric shock
• If the insulation is defective, switch off the power supply immediately.
• Work on the electrical system may only be carried out by a qualified electrician.
• Keep moisture away from live parts.
• Keep the system closed.
• Do not bypass or deactivate fuses.
