To apply the Forehead SpO
See page two for the illustrations.
1. Clean the sensor site with an alcohol wipe to remove skin oils. See illustration for the recommended
site.
2. Remove the white paper backing to expose the first of three adhesive pads.
Sensor is now ready to apply on the patient.
Note: There are three adhesive pads attached to the sensor, each with a pull-tab for removal. When
repositioning the sensor on the same patient, first expose a new adhesive pad by grasping the tab
and peeling off the old adhesive pad. The sensor is now ready to be reapplied to the patient.
3. Place the sensor onto a flat, hairless portion of the patient's forehead just above the left or right
eyebrow. If the patient is lying on their side, place the sensor above the eye on the side of the
patient's head not in contact with the bed. To apply press the Forehead SpO
for 10 seconds, ensuring that the entire surface area of the adhesive pad makes contact with the skin.
4. If desired, the sensor cable can be secured to the patient's clothing or other material by using the clip
located on the cable. To open, pinch the sides of the clip; release to close.
5. Apply the headband.
6. Plug the Forehead SpO
as described in the oximeter operator's manual.
Note: If the sensor does not track the pulse reliably, it may be incorrectly positioned—or the sensor
site may be excessively wrinkled, or too deeply pigmented or otherwise deeply colored (for example,
as a result of externally applied coloring such as dye or pigmented cream) to permit appropriate light
transmission. If any of these situations occurs, reposition the sensor in a different location or choose an
alternate Nellcor™ sensor for use on a different site.
To apply the Headband:
See page three for the illustrations.
1. Place the headband behind the patient's head with the elastic band facing away from you. Allow the
length of the headband to extend more on the elastic band tab side.
2. Roll the short end of the headband towards the patient's forehead.
3. Roll the elastic band side over the width of the patient's forehead, covering the sensor completely.

and oximetry performance. To secure the headband, fasten with the Velcro™* tab.
5. The headband is now properly placed.
6. Periodically check headband. When the arrows are no longer aligned within the green tension
indicator zone, readjust the headband for proper fit.
Note: Applying the headband too loose or too tight can cause inaccurate readings. Be sure the
headband applies equal pressure to the entire sensor. The sensor must be completely covered by the
headband.
Warnings
1. Do not use headband on children age 24 months and younger.
2. Do not use headband on children with open fontanelles.
3. The Forehead SpO
sensor site to ensure skin integrity, correct positioning, and adhesion of the sensor, moving the
sensor to another site as warranted.
4. As with all medical equipment, carefully route cables to reduce the possibility of patient
entanglement or strangulation.
