h) Break-in Instructions for the Motor
When taking the new vehicle into operation, the combustion engine must be subjected to a break-in phase first before
you can start regular operation.
This procedure decisively influences later performance of the combustion engine and its service life. There-
fore, comply with our information on the break-in provision. Improper treatment of the combustion engine
may cause motor damage; loss of warranty/guarantee!
The following must be observed during initial breaking-in:
• Drive mostly at low revolutions (not full throttle).
• Operate the motor with a rich fuel-air mix. This is shown by strong white smoke development from the muffler.
• Operate the vehicle in short running times with intermittent cool-down phases (approx. 3 min. each).
• The entire run-in time (real engine runtime) totals at approx. 45 minutes. Only now must the engine be operated at
full output.
The addition of nitromethane to the model fuel increases the ignitability of the fuel and thereby the performance of the
engine. In the breaking in stage, use a model fuel with a small addition of nitro methane in order to avoid overheating
the engine. The fuel should also have a higher percentage of oil so that the lubrication of the engine is improved until
piston and cylinder liner are run in.
In order to be able to use the full power spectrum later on, the engine should have two to four tank fillings at a "rich"
carburettor setting and be run with changing throttle.
The carburettor is perfectly pre-adjusted for the first runs ex works. A rich carburettor setting is used to sup-
ply the motor sufficiently with lubrication in the run-in phase. This is shown by strong white smoke develop-
ment from the exhaust (burnt oil).
The rich carburettor setting should be maintained for the first 2 - 4 tank fillings. Additionally, do not use any
long full-throttle phases and run in the motor carefully with different speeds.
First run-in phase
• Leave the plug starter inserted and let the engine warm up for approximately 1 minute without accelerating. If neces-
sary, unscrew the main jet needle a little (the flow rate will be higher).
• Remove the plug starter after a one minute warming up phase.
• Drive for about 2 - 3 minutes now with cooling down phases of about 10 minutes in between. Increase the speed
slightly with short throttle bursts (no full throttle!).
The engine runs very roughly and the model moves unwillingly (do not let the motor run when standing but move the
vehicle; otherwise, there will not be enough cooling).
• After each engine run, allow for a sufficient cooling stage (10 minutes). Then the mixture can be made leaner step
by step by carefully turning in the main jet needle (no more than 1/16 turn each).
