CAUTION
Do not disinfect or sterilise the headgear
and forehead pad clip assembly. These parts
cannot be disinfected or sterilised.
The valve membrane must be replaced with
a new valve membrane when the mask is
reused on another patient. This part cannot
be disinfected or sterilised.
After disassembly and cleaning, disinfect the
reusable mask components according to the
following procedure for chemical or thermal
disinfection OR
Sterilise the mask according to the following
procedure for the STERRAD
Process.
Note:
The mask must be disassembled and
cleaned prior to disinfection or sterilisation. The

HEMICAL
1 Soak the reusable mask components in a
commercially available solution of
glutaraldehyde 3.4% (e.g. CIDEX Plus
peracetic acid 0.08% (e.g. CIDEX PA) or
orthophthalaldehyde 0.55% (CIDEX
as described in the manufacturer's
instructions.
2 Rinse the mask components as described in
the manufacturer's instructions and allow
them to air dry out of direct sunlight.
Testing by ResMed has shown that the mask
components can withstand 15 cycles using
solutions of glutaraldehyde 3.4% (CIDEX
Plus®), peracetic acid 0.08% (CIDEX PA) or
orthophthalaldehyde 0.55% (CIDEX®OPA)
when following the manufacturer's instructions.

TERILISATION
ROCESS
Sterilise the mask components as described in
the manufacturer's instructions for the
STERRAD 100S Sterilisation System.
Testing by ResMed has shown that the mask
components can withstand 15 cycles of the
STERRAD 100S Sterilisation System.

NSPECTION AFTER
S
TERILISATION
Perform a visual inspection of each mask
component. If any visible deterioration of a mask
component is apparent (cracking, tears etc), the
mask component should be discarded and
replaced. Yellow discolouration of the cushion
may occur. This discolouration is acceptable.
Note:
If a healthcare facility requires an
additional disinfection or sterilisation process after
reassembly, the number of validated cycles is
halved.
R
EASSEMBLING THE
Make sure all parts of the mask system, especially
the valve membrane, are clean and dry before
reassembling. If the valve membrane is damaged,
distorted or torn, replace it with a new valve
membrane.
CAUTION
The valve membrane must be replaced with a
new valve membrane when the mask is reused
on another patient. This part cannot be
disinfected or sterilised.
1 Insert the valve membrane into the valve
elbow and gently push it into place
(Fig. E-1). Make sure it is seated evenly and
flatly around the rim of the valve elbow, as
the membrane may produce a noise while
you are breathing out if it is fitted incorrectly.
