Road bicycle
Cycling helmet and clothing
Ensure that other road users can see your
child in good time. Your child should wear light,
conspicuous clothing (preferably with reflective
materials). PUKY recommends wearing a well
adjusted cycling helmet that is certified to DIN
EN 1078 with the CE mark (refer to PUKY
accessories).
First use
Adjust the bike to the height of your
child. Set the saddle so that at least
the toes - but preferably the whole balls of the
feet - can touch the floor in a balanced man-
ner. Please ensure that you always adhere to
the mark for the minimum position of the sad-
dle (in the seating tube) when doing so.
Set the handlebars (incl. brake lever and bell)
after positioning the saddle so that the sitting
child can reach it easily; also note the marking
for the lowest position of the handlebars when
doing so. Before using the bike regularly check
it using the following "Safety checklist".
After adjusting the bike
z Check the setting and effectiveness of the
brakes.
z Check that all screws and clamps are fixed
firmly.
z When the pedals were installed were the left
and right threads applied properly? (marked
R or L near the thread on the pedal axis).
z Check steering and drive for function and
freedom of movement.
z Pay particular attention to the ability of the
handlebars to move.
z Check that the dynamo works.
z Check gears to see if they work and are set
properly.
z Check air pressure (the correct air pressure
is on the tyres)
Lighting
z The lights are based on LED technology
which is characterised by minimal power
requirements. For safety reasons the lighting
system was designed for permanent opera-
tion. On/off switching is not necessary.
z To check the lighting system, turn the front
wheel while lifting it up.
Braking
z Your new bike has a rim brake on the front
wheel (left brake lever) and a back pedal
brake on the rear wheel (depending on the
model it may also have a rear wheel rim
brake that is operated via the right brake
lever).
z Please note that the front wheel brake is
less effective when wet.
z Avoid sudden, strong front wheel braking.
V-brakes in particular have very high braking
performance that could suddenly change the
behaviour of the bike and result in a fall.
