Disassembly and maintenance of the flame
arrester:
Before the disassembly, make sure that the pump is stopped, that the
prescriptions for the safety of the persons are respected according to
the valid rules. Before to proceed to the disassembly of the flame
arrester, this one should be free of any constraint bound to the pipeline
connected to the pump.
l Unscrew the nuts (1 and 2 ) and take off the studs (3 and 4)
situated in the indexing ears of the cartridge.
l Unscrew the 4 upper nuts (5).
Scatter the upper cover (6) of the cartridge by the aid of the 8 nuts
(7) till a sufficient space (2 - 3 mm) between the upper cover and
the cartridge (8) arises.
l Take carefully away the cartridge avoiding the deterioration of the
o-rings (11).
Check the metal foil elements with regard to contamination and
appearance. Check the o-rings. They must be free off damage.
l In case of minor contamination the flame arrester element shall be
blown up with compressed air or hot vapour against the operating
flow.
In case of major contamination or sticky impurity of the metal foil
element a flushing with a cleansing agent can be carried out. After
cleansing all parts which had been wetted by a cleansing agent
shall be blown dry.
l Do not carry out any mechanical modifications.
l The cartridge has to be replaced by a new one, if:
u A fire occurred at the flame arrester element
u Loosening or distortions in the structure of the metal foil
elements can be recognized
u Corrosion damages on the metal foil elements have been
detected

u In case of strongly contaminated metal foil elements, even
after cleaning, a residual contamination of more than 30 % of
the fre flow cross-section remained
l After a fire on the flame arrester element the functionality of the
temperature probe shall be checked.

Re-assembly of the flame arrester:

l Insert the cartridge on taking care to not damage the o-rings.
Position the cartridge by the aid of the studs (3 and 4) in the holes
foreseen for that purpose in the cartridge.
l Place again the 8 nuts (8) in the middle of the studs (9).
Tighten the 12 nuts (10) to the recommended torque of 62 Nm on
ensuring a constant support of the upper cover of the cartridge.
