INTENDED USE (fig. 4): The ascender is determined for ascent on the rope or accessory
cord. It slides in one direction and locks in other direction. Always verify before use that
your equipment consists of products compatible with each other and is in conformity with
the applicable regulations, standards and directives in force. Also verify that the system has
been properly assembled and that each component functions without interfering with any
of the other components (fig. 6).
INSTALLING ON THE ROPE (fig. 5): Grab the ascender with arrow directing up. Pull the
safety catch with your thumb and secure it in open position. Insert the rope and release
the safety catch with your thumb. Cam locks the rope and safety catch sink into the locked
position. Check out, if the rope is placed properly and if the ascender locks.
ASCENT: Move the ascender up the rope. Pull back, the ascender will lock itself. To go up,
repeat the action. Always load the ascender in the direction parallel to the rope. If this is
not possible, use additional carabiner (fig. 7).
WARNING: avoid any objects getting into places where the cam touches the rope. Avoid
safety catch dragging by cloth, ropes or other gear. Mud, snow and ice may affect safety
function of ascender.
REMOV AL FROM THE ROPE: Only unloaded ascender can be removed from the rope.
Pull the safety catch with your thumb and secure it in open position. Take the rope out and
release the safety catch with your thumb. Cam and safety catch sink into the initial position.
DESCENDING: Unloaded ascender can be moved down along the rope when pulling the
nose of safety catch.
INSPECTIONS: Before using the product always check its general condition and wear.
Check the body, cam and safety catch, attachment holes and handle. All must function
perfectly. All the marking must be clearly readable. There must not be any signs of wear,
corrosion, deformation or defects in general. If you have any doubts, do not use the ascen-
der and replace it immediately.
USE IN ROPE ACCESS ACCORDING TO EN 12841:
- Ascender is not suitable for fall arrest. It is intended for ascending along a working line
and it must be always used together with EN 12841/ A safety line backup device.
- The certification tests were performed with ropes: Lanex Static 10 and 13 mm.
- Connecting assembly (lanyard + connectors) must be of maximum length 1 m.
- The user must be informed of the existence of an emergency plan, present at the place of
work, necessary to handle any possible emergency that can arise.
- To ensure the good maintenance and traceability of this product it is best to allocate it
to a sole user; if not possible the product shall be checked by competent persons before
and after use. If necessary, there must be an efficient and safe rescue method to be
adopted should a person find himself in difficulty while using this product. Always verify
that the physical conditions of the user are such that the product is used safely during
ordinary as well as emergency use.
- Use only anchors complying with the EN 795 with a minimum breaking strength of 12 kN
(for textile anchors minimum 18 kN).
- While using the connector and other personal protective devices, the user must always
remain below the anchor point (fig.5). The position and the height of the anchor point
from the ground, must be calculated in the view of a possible fall, taking into account the
length of the rope and of the devices connected to the rope, any dangerous obstacles,
and the possibility of a "swinging" effect. The work must be carried out in such way as to
minimize both the potential fall and potential fall distance.
- Avoid rope slack above the ascender.
- The full body harness complying EN 361 is the only acceptable body retaining device that
can be used in a fall arrest system.
- Verify that a technical identification and control card in conformity with standard
EN 365:2004 is provided with the product. This card must be filled in and kept updated by
the user. If the card is missing, do not use the device.
- Ascenders (EN 12841/B) shall undergo periodical in-depth inspection carried out by
authorized person at least every 12 months.
