3.1 Assembling the Steel Stanchion
WARNING!
Complete the assembly of the steel stanchion at ground level or in a location where the component parts
cannot fall from height.
Install the cotter pin in the hole at the end of the threaded rod to reduce the potential for accidental removal
of the clamp nut and Belleville washer when installing the stanchion.
See Figure 3. (Pre-assembly of the concrete stanchion only includes assembly of the post to the base, see
section 3.4 "Adjusting the Concrete Stanchion Post".)
(1) Install the vertical post 1 ½ by 4 in. (3.8 by 10 cm) into the stanchion base.
(2) Install the two 1/2 in. diameter bolts and nuts.
(3) Torque the nuts to 115 ft-lbf (155 Nm).
(4) Put the threaded rod with hook through the hole in the stanchion base.
(5) Install the Belleville washer and clamp nut.
(6) Install the cotter pin in the hole at the clamp nut end of the threaded rod to reduce the potential for
accidental removal of the clamp nut and Belleville washer before installation.
