Instructions for Use
3DX External Distraction System
The adjusted distractor or the pin cutout on the second pin holding clamp now serves as a
•
reference point for placing the second pair of pins. The position is marked and the
distractor then removed. Using the pin guide and the twin trocar, the second pin pair is
anchored in the bone in the same way as described above for the first pin pair.
To minimize scar formation, squeeze the skin into the space between the two parallel pin
•
pairs.
Performing the osteotomy
Perform a complete bicortical osteotomy on the mandible. Be careful not to damage the
•
dental roots, dental germs and the alveolar nerve in the process. Adequate mobility of the
bone segments should be verified after the osteotomy.
Final fixation of the distractor
Final setting
Adjust the distractor so that activation is easily possible.
•
Use the patient screwdriver (see section 10.3 "Instruments", page 40) to verify the
•
movability of the pin holding clamps located on the distraction arms on the distal and
proximal segments.
Wound closure is done according to the current state of scientific knowledge.
•
WARNING
Danger of system failure in the event of improper handling!
Improper handling (non-permitted adaptation/modification) of the distractor system by
•
the user can lead to system failure and injuries! Therefore, be aware that the distraction
system may never be bent or adapted to bone contours!
V. 1.2
•
Using the two pin holding clamps (5),
connect the distractor to the parallel pin
pairs after loosening the pin fixation screw
(6) with the vector adjustment screwdriver
(section 10.3 "Instruments", page 40).
This exposes cutouts (9) for the parallel
pins, which serve as guides.
Use these guides to adjust the distractor
•
along the pins until it has reached its
optimal position.
Firmly tighten the pin fixation screw (6) to
•
fix the distractor in place.
