The type of presentation of the individual windows is defined under this pull-down menu. The windows may
be cascaded or tiled horizontally or tiled vertically. The zoom factor of the windows does not change.
In many cases smaller windows are covered by larger ones. To have an immediate access to them, it is
possible to click directly on the window names in this menu. Then the selected window is placed in the
foreground.
With the item 'Minimize windows', all windows are presented as symbols at the lower screen edge. This is
also a way to find concealed windows very quickly.
2.5.9 Sound Control
2.5.9.1 Sound Control via sound card
If the personal computer is equipped with a build in sound card (plugged or OnBoard), it is possible to
control under this menu item scenes and sequences depending on the music. However, first the software
mixer by Windows or the corresponding sound card software has to be switched to the record mode. With a
Windows mixer the record mode is adjusted under 'options/features/adjust volume for recording'.
The desired music source (microphone, Line-In, CD Audio, or MIDI) is selected and the corresponding
recording fader is set to 50% for the time being. Then the music source is switched on, e.g. the internal CD
player (via the Windows media player).
Now the menu item 'Sound Control via soundcard' is activated. A window is opened in which possibly
several parameters have to be set. The easiest way is first to activate the option 'Auto Threshold ' and then to
press the button 'Start'. Now a blue bar dancing up and down is visible in the left frame of the window. The
height of the bar corresponds to the present volume level of the music source. Above the VU meter bar the
music level is indicated in percent. On the left of the VU meter a threshold value fader is situated. If the
option 'Auto Threshold' is activated, the fader value automatically adapts itself to the average music level. If
this is not desired, the option 'Auto Threshold' has to be deactivated. Now the threshold value for the
advancing of the scenes in the sequences is manually adjusted with the fader. To check the threshold value, it
is possible to read the fader value above the fader in percent. A sequence loaded in the sequence table A is
now advanced depending on the music. For controlling another sequence table, the corresponding option has
to be activated. It is possible to switch up to four sequence tables at the same time.
By selecting a lower sample rate it is possible to simulate a low pass filter within limits, so that only the
lower frequencies control the scenes.
With the lower fader in cross direction the maximum beats per minute can be limited. This option is very
useful for slower Moving Heads or scanners.
To quit the music control, click the small cross in the right upper corner of the window.
2.5.9.2 Manual Beat
If the sound card is not available or if the music control by sound card is too irregular, it is possible to define
a beat by the space bar with the help of the manual beat control. The bar has to be actuated four times, then
the program calculates the average time value. Also in this case the sequence tables A -D can be selected for
control. With the button 'Start' (or the fifth actuation of the space bar) the manual beat control is started, with
the button 'Stop' it is stopped. With 'Close beat' the window is closed.
2.5.10 Help
Under "Help/Manual" the internet explorer is started first and then these operating instructions are displayed.
The item "DMX-510USB" informs about copyright, author, and current version of the software.
