4.2 Vario single-axle chassis
Figs. 4.a-4.c as well as 4.2.d-4.2.i
First, bolt on the two cantilevers [06] and the two drive units
[01] and [02] using the safety bolts M 10x14 [16] fitted with
one washer M 10 [24] each; tightening torque 60 Nm. The
iMC sticker should point outwards on the left and the right
unit. Seal the ends of the cantilever [06] with the caps for
the cantilever [07]. (Fig. 4.a)
As the next step, preassemble both chassis adapters [08]. To
do this, screw the threaded pins M 8x20 [18] with the
locknut M 8 [20] a few millimetres into the adapter. Later,
the bolt functions as a clamping bolt and should not project
into the tube after preliminary assembly. (Fig. 4.b)
Also, preassemble the middle crossmember [10] with the
threaded pins M 8x20 [18] and a locknut M 8 [20] as
described above. (Fig. 4.c)
Then, push all components together loosely. The chamfered
edge of both chassis adapters should be pointing outwards.
This completes preliminary assembly of the module.
(Fig. 4.2.d)
!
The self-locking bolts are indicated by the red-marked thread!
The safety bolts M 10x14 mm (red threads) are only allowed to be screwed in once. If bolting on again,
it is only permitted for new genuine bolts M 10x14 mm to be used (red thread; BPW art. no. 02.5071.62.00).
As an alternative, comparable bolts M 10x14 mm (minimum strength class 8.8) with bolt locking type
WEICON AN 302-72 or an equivalent product are allowed to be used.
As a next step, bolt on the prepared iMC crossmember
under the chassis. To do this, use four bolts M 12x35 [19],
each with four nuts M 12 [21] and four washers M 12 (thick)
[22] and M 12 (thin) [23]. (Figs. 4.2.e and 4.2.f)
In many chassis, it is necessary to guide the brake linkage
through the middle crossmember [10]. It is important for a
gap of about 20 mm to be set between the tyre and the iMC
when the caravan or trailer is loaded. Use the wooden block
[15] for checking. Tighten the bolts to 92 Nm. (Fig. 4.2.g)
} Caution:
The wheel must be fully loaded in order for
the distance to be set, i.e. the caravan must
be completely standing on level ground.
Align the middle crossmember [10] centrally in relation to
the frame and tighten the four threaded pins M 8x20 [18] to
15 Nm against the cantilever tube, and then lock it with the
locknut M 8 [20].
Following this, check the iMC attachment is seated correctly,
in correct condition and is complete. (Fig. 4.2.h)
