Remove the knife lock screws (Fig. 11-1), remove the knife clamp (Fig. 11-4)
then remove the knife (Fig. 11-3). Set everything aside as a group.

Remove all other knives and set aside as groups.
8.
Clean all dust and debris out of the cutterhead assembly.
9.
Grind or replace the knives. See the next section on grinding.

The knives must match in dimensions and weight to avoid
unbalancing the cutterhead. The minimum dimension is a depth of 21
mm.
10. Place the knife back onto the cutterhead with the angle facing outward.
11.
Place the knife clamp on the knife, again with the angle facing outward.
12. Insert each knife lock screw into the knife clamp and screw them in until
hand tight.
13. Check the knife height and adjust if necessary.
14. Check that the knife' s edge is parallel with the outfeed table. Adjust the
knife and clamp until it is even.
15. Repeat steps 8 to 14 for each knife.
16. Remove the brace board to allow the cutterhead guard to swing back over
the cutterhead.
GRINDING A KNIFE
1.
Each knife has a minimum depth of 21 mm. Any shorter and you cannot
properly adjust the height. Replace the knives.
2.
Grind each knife at a 38º angle.
3.
Grind all knives to the same depth, even if a knife does not appear to need
a new edge to avoid unbalancing the cutterhead.
4.
Also check that the knife clamp bottom is flat. A cupped knife clamp will
not apply an even pressure to the knife. Flatten the clamp' s bottom by
rubbing it on a diamond plate or on fine sandpaper adhered to a flat
surface.
ADJUSTING THE KNIFE HEIGHT
1.
Make sure the power switch is off, the safety key is removed and the
jointer is unplugged.
2.
Swing the cutterhead guard open and keep it open with a 6-1/4 in. block of
wood acting as a brace against the fence.
