CARE & MAINTENANCE
1.
Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to
control and will have fewer problems.
2.
Inspect the tool components periodically. Repair or replace damaged or
worn components. Only use identical replacement parts when servicing.
3.
Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
4.
Only use accessories intended for use with this tool.
5.
Keep the tool clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
6.
Maintain the tool' s labels and name plates. These carry important
information. If unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for
replacements.
WARNING! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool. An
improperly repaired tool may present a hazard to the user and/or others.
KNIFE MAINTENANCE
1.
Make sure the power switch is off, the safety key is removed, and the
jointer is unplugged.
2.
Check the knives (Fig. 11-3) for wear, chips or nicks.
a.
A dull knife can tear the
fibers or 'smash' the lower
density wood down and
leaving the denser wood
as raised grain.
b.
Chips and gouges will
leave an uneven cut.
c.
A worn knife may no
longer be level with the
outfeed table and the cut will not be the correct depth or may be
uneven across the knife' s length.
3.
You can either restore the edges by grinding or by replacing the knives.
4.
Swing the cutterhead guard open and keep it open with a 6-1/4 in. block of
wood acting as a brace against the fence.
5.
Rotate the cutterhead (Fig. 11-5) by hand until the knife is on top.
a.
You may wish to wear gloves, as the dull knives are still sharp
enough to cut you.
