• Check the sanding plate before each use. Do not use
if it is torn, broken or has fallen off.
• Avoid direct contact with the moving sanding plate to
avoid crushing or cutting hands or other parts of the
body. Suitable gloves must be worn as hand protec-
tion.
• Never use the machine without abrasive.
• There is a risk of electrostatic discharge if the ma-
chine is used on plastic and other non-conductive ma-
terials.
• A potentially explosive atmosphere can be caused by
dusts and vapours, and occur due to sanding and
grinding. Always use a dust extraction or suppression
system that is suitable for the material that is to be
machined.
5.4
Hazards due to repetitive
movements
• When using a sanding sheet sander or a polisher to
carry out work-related activities, the operator may ex-
perience unpleasant sensations in the hands and
arms, as well as in the neck and shoulder area or oth-
er parts of the body.
• When using a sanding sheet sander or a polisher, the
user should maintain a comfortable posture, taking
care to stand securely and avoiding awkward postures
or those where it is difficult to maintain balance. The
user should change posture in the course of pro-
longed work, which can be helpful in avoiding discom-
fort and fatigue.
• If the operator experiences symptoms such as per-
sistent or recurrent discomfort, aching, throbbing,
pain, tingling, numbness, burning or stiffness, these
signs should not be ignored. In this case, the operator
should consult an appropriately qualified medical
practitioner.
5.5
Hazards due to accessories
• Disconnect the sanding sheet sander or the polisher
from the power supply before replacing the machine
tool or accessories.
• Avoid direct contact with the machine tool during and
after use, as it may have heated up or be sharp-
edged.
• Only machine tools for sanding sheet sanders and
polishers intended by the manufacturer of the sanding
sheet sander and polishers may be used.
• Do not use abrasive cutting discs or machines for cut-
ting.
• Check whether the maximum operating speed of the
machine tool (flap discs, sanding belts, fibre discs,
etc.) is higher than the rated speed of the machine;
• Self-adhesive sanding sheets must be attached con-
centrically to the mounting plate.
5.6
Hazards in the workplace
• Slips, trips and falls are major causes of workplace in-
juries. Watch out for surfaces that may have become
slippery due to use of the machine and for tripping
hazards caused by the air hose or hydraulic hose.

• The sanding sheet sander or polisher is not intended
for use in potentially explosive atmospheres and is not
insulated against contact with electrical power sourc-
es.
• Ensure that no there are no electric cables or gas
pipes etc. where you are working and which can lead
to a hazard if damaged when you use the machine.
5.7
Hazards due to dust and vapours
• The dusts and vapours generated by the use of sand-
ing sheet sanders or polishers can cause damage to
health (such as cancer, birth defects, asthma and/or
dermatitis); it is essential to carry out a risk assess-
ment in relation to these hazards and to implement
appropriate control mechanisms.
• The risk assessment should include the dust generat-
ed by the use of the machine and the dust that may
be stirred up in the process.
• The sanding sheet sander or polisher shall be operat-
ed and maintained in accordance with the recommen-
dations contained in this manual to minimise the re-
lease of dust and vapours.
• The exhaust air must be discharged in such a way
that the whirling up of dust in a dust-filled environment
is reduced to a minimum.
• If dust or vapours are generated, the main task must
be to control them at the point of release.
• All installation or accessory parts of the machine in-
tended to collect, extract or suppress flying dust or va-
pours should be used and maintained in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions.
• Select, maintain and replace consumables / machine
tools in accordance with the recommendations in this
manual to avoid an unnecessary increase in dust or
vapour development.
• Use respiratory protective equipment in accordance
with your employer's instructions or as required by
health and safety regulations.
5.8
Noise hazard
• Exposure to high noise levels can cause permanent
hearing damage, hearing loss and other problems
such as tinnitus (ringing, swishing, whistling or buzz-
ing in the ear) if hearing protection is inadequate. It is
essential to carry out a risk assessment in relation to
these hazards and implement appropriate regulatory
mechanisms.
• Control mechanisms suitable for risk reduction include
measures such as the use of insulating materials to
prevent ringing noises occurring at the workpieces.
• Use hearing protection equipment in accordance with
your employer's instructions or as required by health
and safety regulations.
• The sanding sheet sander or polisher shall be operat-
ed and maintained in accordance with the recommen-
dations contained in this manual to avoid an unneces-
sary increase in noise levels.
• Select, maintain and replace consumables / machine
tools in accordance with the recommendations in this
manual to avoid an unnecessary increase in noise lev-
el.
