- Position yourself out of the path of the piece of wood in case of accidental kickback.
- Press the reference surface of the workpiece flat on the thicknesser table (7), under the output table (13), and
feed it into the machine. For irregular woods, engage the thicker side first.
- Release the board when the machine starts to cut and let the board feed into the machine automatically.
Do not force the machine; let it do the work. Never try to pull out or push the workpiece when engaged in the
machine.
- Collect the workpiece on the other side of the machine.
8.4.4 Avoiding snipe
Snipe is caused by the workpiece tilting slightly towards at the beginning and at the end of the thicknessing
operation.
It shows as waves at the ends of the board, parallel with the cutterhead. To avoid snipe:
- Press the workpiece flat on the thicknesser table (7).
- Adjust the supporting devices (roller stands, trestles, etc.) to the same level as the thicknesser table (7).
8.4.5 Unblock a jammed workpiece
If the workpiece gets jammed in the machine, please proceed as follows:
- Immediately stop the machine by pressing the red button on the switch (11) marked "O".
- Disconnect the machine from the mains.
- Rotate the crank handle (2) to lower the thicknesser table (7).
- Wear gloves and remove the workpiece.
! Danger! Never try to unblock the workpiece while the machine is running.
8.4.6 Thermal protection
If the overcurrent protection stops the machine, this means that the motor has been overloaded: you will have to
locate the overload (overheating, jam, too much pressure on the workpiece, etc.) and modify or adapt your way of
working.
- In case of overheating, the motor shuts off automatically: let the motor cooldown for 10 to 15 minutes, then press
the reset button (14). You can restart the machine by pressing the green button on the switch (11) marked "I".
- When operating, do not exert too much pressure on the cutterhead (it must constantly turn at full speed) and do
not push the workpiece too hard: let the machine do the work.
- If the cutterhead slows down or stops, this means the machine is overloaded. Immediately stop your work and let
the motor cooldown by running the machine unloaded for a few minutes.
9. Maintenance
! CAUTION! To prevent accidents, make sure that the plug is disconnected from the power
receptacle.
9.1 Changing and setting the blades (Fig 13 to 16)
Tools required: 1xHex wrench + 1xMetal ruler (not supplied)
CAUTION! Immediately after use, the blades can be very hot.
- Allow the blades to cool down before handling.
- Always wear gloves.
- Do not clean the tool with flammable liquid.
CAUTION! The tool can cause cuts. Always wear gloves!
- Tighten the blade installation bolts carefully when attaching the blades to the tool. A loose installation bolt can be
dangerous. Always check to see they are tightened securely.
- Use only the wrench provided to remove or install the blades. Failure to do so may result in overtightening or
insufficient tightening of the installation bolts. This could cause an injury.
- To install the blades, first clean out all chips or foreign matter adhering to the cutterhead or blades.
- Use blades of the same dimensions and weight, or cutterhead oscillation/vibration will result, causing poor
thicknessing action and, eventually, tool breakdown. Always change the blades by pairs.
- Use properly sharpened blades.
