- Dusts from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some wood types, can be harmful to one's health.
Touching or breathing-in the dusts can cause allergic reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or
bystanders.
- Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are considered as carcinogenic, especially in connection with wood-
treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). It is highly recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.
- When working on the machine, do not wear work gloves.
- Always keep fingers away from moving blades.
- Keep hands out of path of blades, never reach around the blades.
- Always wear gloves and eye protection when fitting or removing blades.
4.2.3 Machine use and care
- Do not attempt to modify the machine or its accessories in any way.
- Do not modify the machine to do tasks other than those intended.
- Use of improper accessories may cause damage to the machine and surrounding area as well, as increasing the
risk of injury.
- Keep guards in place and in good working order. Never use the machine without the appropriate guard in place
and correctly adjusted. The machine must only be operated with all correctly mounted guards, etc.
- Regularly check that the kickback safety is functioning properly. The effectiveness of the device for the prevention
of kickback and the feed spindle should be regularly inspected to ensure safe operation.
- Any portion of the cutterhead not being used for planing shall be guarded.
- Have defective switches replaced by a recognized customer service center. Do not work with the machine if the
ON/OFF switch or the speed of rotations cannot be moved properly.
- Do not start the machine with the workpiece in contact with the blade.
- Check the workpiece for any protruding nails, screw heads, or anything that could damage the blade.
- Before making the first cut using the machine, let it run for a while, watch for vibration or wobbling that could
indicate poor installation or poorly balanced blade. Adjust or replace, as necessary.
- Stop operation immediately if you notice anything abnormal.
- Support large workpiece with proper tools: roller stands, trestles, etc.
- Allow the motor to reach full speed before operating.
- Stay alert at all time, especially during repetitive, monotonous operations. Do not be lulled into a false sense of
security. Blades are extremely unforgiving.
- Do not stop the machine by forcing the workpiece against it or by using sideways pressure.
- Do not use excessive force when feeding the workpiece to the blade. Feeding the workpiece gradually will reduce
wear on the machine and blade, increasing its efficiency and operating life.
- Use a pushstick when rip sawing narrow workpiece.
- Turn off the machine and wait for it to complete stop before moving workpiece or changing settings.
- Do not leave the running machine unattended.
4.2.4 Tools use and care
- Only use blades that are recommended by the manufacturer, which conform to EN847-1 and that are in good
condition.
- Never use cracked or distorted blades. Only use sharp blades.
- Never use blades that are deformed; this is highly dangerous and could result in a serious accident to the
operator and bystanders, as well as damaging the machine.
- Check regularly that the cutting blades are securely fastened.
- The cutting blades may only stick out a maximum of 1 mm or 10% above the cutting block.
- Wait for the blades to stop completely and remove the plug from mains supply before servicing or adjusting tools.
- Always store blades in safe area, away from other people, and take great care.
4.3 Residual risks
Despite observance of all the safety regulations, and use according to the rules described in this manual, residual
risks may still be present, among which the most recurring are:
- Contact with tool.
- Contact with moving parts (belts, pulleys, etc.).
- Recoil of the piece or part of it.
- Accidents due to wood splinters or fragments.
- Insert tool ejection.
- Electrocution from contact with live parts.
- Danger due to incorrect tool installation.
- Inverse tool rotation due to incorrect electrical connection.
- Danger due to dust inhalation in case of working without vacuum cleaner.
