2. Definitions and pictograms
2.1. Definitions
"User": Person or department responsible for the
management and safety of use of the product described
in the manual.
"Technician" : Qualified person in charge of the
maintenance operations described in, and authorised
by the user manual, who is competent and familiar with
the product.
"Operator": Operational person using the product as it
is intended to be used.
"PPE": Personal protective equipment against falls from
height.
"Connector":
Connection
components of a fall-arrest system. This is EN 362
compliant.
"Fall-arrest harness": Body harness designed to arrest
falls. It consists of straps and buckles. It features fall-
arrest attachment points marked with an A if they can
be used alone, or marked with A/2 if they are to be used
in combination with another A/2 point. This is EN 361
compliant.
"Shock absorber": Part or component of a fall-arrester
system designed to dissipate kinetic energy that builds
up during a fall from a height.
"Lanyard ": Connection component or element in a fall-
arrester system. A lanyard may be made of synthetic
fibre or wire rope or webbing.
"Maximum operating load": Maximum weight of the
operator, equipped with the correct PPE, workwear,
tools and the parts they need to perform the task at
hand.
"Fall-arrest system": Set composed of the following
items:
– Fall-arrest harness.
– Self-retracting fall-arrest device, or energy shock
absorber, or mobile fall prevention device with rigid
belaying supports, or mobile fall prevention device
with flexible belaying supports.
– Anchoring.
– Linking component.

4. Functions and description
