7. Driving With the container
7.1. safety instructions
– The towing vehicle must be suitable for towing 16 t
respectively 24 t (see the operating instructions or
registration document of the vehicle). The operator of
the roller set is responsible for determining this.
– Towing vehicle must meet the technical requirements
for trailer operation.
– Never stand between the container and the vehicle
while it is being driven.
– Do not leave the load unattended while rolling.
– Avoid driving over curbs too often, as this increases
wear on the rollers.
– Use traversing aids.
– Only drive over curbs higher than 10 mm at a reduced
speed (–> Technical data).
– Proceed with particular care if the surface of the road
is slippery.
– Do not exceed the maximum gradient of the ground
(–> Technical data).
– Only open the parking brake when the vehicle is
attached.
7.2 Before driving
Before driving, check that:
– the rear rollers are locked in the driving direction
using the direction locking device. Failure to observe
this instruction can lead to uncontrolled handling
characteristics from the container, putting the safety
of personnel and materials in jeopardy.
– the front rollers at the drawbar end are freely-
moveable (direction locking device released). This
will facilitate cornering and avoid excessive wear to
the rollers.
z Connect the towing vehicle to the container.
– Always use the parking support when hitching
the drawbar. Once you have done so, vacate the
danger zone between the vehicle and the container
immediately.
– Unguided wheels must be blocked against twist
during the rolling operation.
z Release the parking brakes.
– Release the brakes slowly.
– Any lifting equipment mounted on the container as
well as container roller set and load to be observed
during all movements.
– First release the brakes at the downhill end, followed
by the brakes at the uphill end.
This will rule out the possibility of the combination
rolling over.
z Move off with care.
Before use, perform test drives in a wide-open,
unobstructed area, to familiarise yourself with the
handling characteristics of the vehicle combination.

7.3 forwards driving and reversing
If the container is to be steered exclusively from the towing
vehicle, it is possible to change the driving direction at any point
in time. The rollers on the drawbar turn automatically; there is
no need for the rollers at the rear of the container to turn, and
this is prevented by the direction locking device.
Only for extended periods of reversing (upwards of 50 metres)
should the rollers be turned 180° (to preserve the service life of
the roller coating).
z Unlock the direction locking device on both rollers
(–> chap. 6.6)
z Reverse the container until the rollers rotate automatically.
z Lock the direction locking device (–> chap. 6.6)
If the terrain has a slope perpendicular to the driving
direction, the rear direction locking device may not
be unlocked under any circumstances.
7.4 tracking function
During operation with the tracking function, all direction locking
devices and the spacer fork must be unlocked. The cornering
behaviour of the rollers can be influenced by attaching the
steering rod to the rear rollers.
This facilitates tight cornering and accurate reversing.
After consulting with the operators of the steering rods, it is
possible to change direction at any time. To do so, align the
rollers in the desired driving direction and adjust the steering
rods. Always keep the steering rods parallel to one-another.
– Before starting driving, check that all direction
locking devices have been released.
– Start by practising with the tracking function on a
wide-open, unobstructed area, so that the driver of
the towing vehicle and the operators of the steering
rods can learn how to work together as a team during
driving. Drive at a very low speed (0.25 m/s = 1 km/h)!
– Operating the steering rods requires increased effort,
and should therefore only be performed by physically
strong individuals.
– The steering rods must not be released during
tracking.
– The driver and operators of the steering rods must
remain continuously in contact during driving. In
addition, at least one marshall is necessary. They
must maintain visual contact with the driver of the
towing vehicle.
– On uneven ground, one of the rollers may lift off the
ground.
– The tracking function must not be used on terrain
which slopes down perpendicular to the driving
direction.
parking the container
Secure the container from rolling away when parked
using the measures described below.
z Only park on a level surface.
z Lock all direction locking devices.
z Apply all parking brakes.
