Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The message „Motor malfunction" shows on the AutoStar display and the device can no longer
be controlled.
Hold the MODE button down for two or three seconds. The telescope will then carry out a
motor test and be ready for use thereafter.
Please replace the batteries whenever necessary. Alkaline batteries are the most suitable.
Rechargeable (NiCd and the like) ones are unsuitable due to their low nominal voltage.
Please reset the AutoStar should all attempts to remedy the motor malfunction fail. To do so,
proceed as follows.
1.
Use the switch (15) to turn the power on. The red LED lamp will illuminate.
2.
Press the following buttons when the beep sounds:
•

Then use the arrow keys to select first <Setup>
•
and then <Reset>

My telescope moves but the objects selected are not found.
The ETX-70 can find celestial objects by itself once correctly set up. Alignment must be car-
ried out every time the device is turned On or Off or its location changed. To do so, follow the
instructions below.
Bring the main tube to the horizontal and point it northwards.
Hand tighten the azimuth and horizontal clamps.
The AutoStar must also be appropriately set for the specific conditions.
The quickest and easiest way to do so is to follow the instructions given under „Simple align-
ment". The AutoStar computer needs the following data before first use.
•
Telescope model
•
Alignment method
•
Country
•
City
Date, time and summer time: a yes / no response is requested for each. The AutoStar will then
seek alignment stars that are in its database. Once the first has been found it must be centred
in the eyepiece using the four arrow keys. Then press ENTER to confirm. The same procedure
applies to the second star. The Autostar will then display „Alignment OK". Your ETX70 is now
ready for use.
After lengthy observation the object I'm looking at is no longer centred in the eyepiece field of
view.
Realign from time to time. Please refer to the Operating Instructions on how to do so.
Positioning accuracy greatly improves once this has been done.
If an object is tracked for a long time it may slowly disappear from the eyepiece field of view.
If it does, please follow the instructions below.
•
Hold ENTER down for about two seconds
•
The telescope will then cease tracking and the message „Enter to synchronise" will
be displayed.
•
Return the observed object to the field of view using the four arrow keys. Adjust the
speed using the SPEED button if required (the recommended speed is 0.008°)
•
Then press the ENTER button. Your telescope is now synchronised again.
