DIR input
Direction input: A HIGH signal switches the direction of rotation from the default CW to CCW. The
reverse function can also be factory-programmed. If DIR is reversed when the device is already
switched on, this will be interpreted as an error. The LED switches on and the status output switches
to LOW. If this input is not used, it should be connected to 0 V (Encoder ground GND) in order to avoid
interferences.
Status LED
This optional (red) LED serves to display various alarm or error messages.
The LED is off during normal operation.
A lighted LED (status output LOW) indicates:
• Sensor error, singleturn or multiturn (dirt, breakage of the glass disk, etc.)
• LED error, failure or ageing
• Over or undertemperature
In SSI mode the error message can only be reset by switching off the power supply. The displays are
not safety-rated and serve only for the diagnostics.
9. Maintenance and repairs
The encoder is maintenance-free. In case of high loads (e.g. due to high rotational speeds and revers-
ing operation), the torque stop may be subject to a certain wear. In this case, the replacement of the
torque stop may become necessary. Please contact us in this case.
9.1 Re-assembly
When re-mounting the encoder, take care to perform all steps described in Chapter 6. Do not re-use
damaged parts
9.2 Inspection and maintenance of the Ex protection
1. The dust explosion protection strongly depends on the local conditions and therefore the equipment
in hazardous areas by dust requires regular inspection and maintenance. Thick layers of dust will
result in a temperature rise on the surface of the device due to thermal insulation. Therefore, dust
deposits on the encoder should be avoided as far as possible by means of a suitable mounting and
regular maintenance.
2. As a general rule, a device that is to be opened for servicing shall only be opened by trained
personnel of the manufacturer. During disassembly, care must be taken in order not to damage the
elements that are relevant for the tightness of the housing.
3. Should damages appear at the device, especially at the seals, the device is to be replaced immedi-
ately. Repair work at the device itself is to be carried out exclusively by the manufacturer.
9.3 Traceability
It is recommended to ensure the traceability of devices carrying out functional safety tasks. This is
determining for a quick reaction in the market.
