ment not belonging to the securing level is impossible,
thereby making detachment from the securing level im-
possible without the use of tools.
3 Compatibility: If this system is used in connection with
a harness to EN 12277 Type A & C or to EN 361, the ISS
must be fastened to the catch eye or the tie-in point of
the harness by suitable means (Fig. 3), such as a cow
hitch knot, a lanyard to EN 354 (Fig. 4b), a connector to
EN 362-Q (Fig. 4a) or a comparable means of connec-
tion. As specified by EN 17109: 2020, 4.1; any connec-
tions within the reach of users, between the lanyard and
the connecting system to the securing harness as well
as between the connecting system of the securing har-
ness and the securing harness itself, must be designed
to allow opening with a tool only. Use of the ISS requires
that the force applied to the securing system will not
increase 6 kN at any time. If this is not guaranteed, an
energy absorber to EN 355 must be used in connection
with the ISS (Fig. 3 C). When determining the free space
required below the securing level, the length of the ISS
of 83 cm (plus the length of the connecting system to
the harness) must be considered.
Ropes:
The MCD is suitable for all popular steel ropes (10 mm ≤
Ø ≤ 13 (14*) mm), which are commonly used in ropes
courses. The type and configuration of the steel rope influ-
ence wearing of the product. Edelrid recommends using a
steel rope with a diameter of 12 to 13 mm for zip lines. If
you have questions on the configuration of steel ropes,
please contact your steel rope supplier.
The function is limited on stainless steel ropes. Contact
the manufacturer for additional information.
* To ensure proper function on smaller rope diameters,
spacers limiting the opening width are used. To be able to
use the MCD on ropes with a diameter exceeding 13 mm,
the spacers must be removed by the manufacturer or an
authorized person.
Use:
Before assigning the ISS to a user, the operating company
(owner) or the trainer must check it for proper function
and possible defects. Ensure that the two roller karabiners
cannot be opened at the same time.
In locations entailing a fall hazard, the ISS may only be
used with both MCDs engaged. Relocating MCDs is only
allowed at a secure location. The MCDs must be detached
and re-engaged one after the other, one MCD must always
be engaged!
If the MCDs are used as pulleys on a zip line, be sure not
to exceed the maximum speed of 10 m/s.
The following basic rules must be observed when using
the ISS, users must be instructed to obey them.
Correct connection: The compatibility rules (Fig. 3) must
be observed.
5 Use: Exclusively engage the ISS to steel elements of
the securing level with 10 mm ≤ Ø ≤ 14* mm. Ob-
serve the DRL principle (detach, re-engage, lock).
6 Guiding the MCD: Move the MCDs with your arm.
7 Guiding the lanyard: Move the lanyard past your
head.
8 Karabiner locks: Ensure the MCDs are locked when
you start exercising.
9 Return stop: When climbing up or down, the roller
karabiners may start moving once the user falls. To
prevent impact, the operating company (owner) should
install return stoppers as a precaution. When climbing
vertically up/down, the operating company (owner)
must provide suitable securing points, to ensure the
force acting on the system will not exceed 6 kN.
10 Transport: We recommend using the Smart Belay
Holster/ Band Hook Loop.
11 Hair: Tie long hair.
FAULTY USE
The following types of faulty use of the ISS may cause in-
jury or loss of function of the system. Never use the sys-
tem this way.
If faulty use has occurred, proper function of the product
must be checked. If the product's function is impaired,
contact the manufacturer or an authorized person (sales
representative or installer of the ropes course).
12 Opening the karabiners: When one karabiner is
open, do not attempt to open the other karabiner de-
liberately and forcibly. No greater force than needed
to open one karabiner must act on the other karabi-
ner.
