b) Setting tooth backlash of motor/main pinion
Regularly check the tooth backlash between the motor pinion
gear and the main pinion.
• Put a thin paper slip between the two wheels (80 g/sheet)
(fig. 14).
• To correct the tooth backlash, loosen the two motor
attachment screws and adjust them as required.
Tooth backlash is properly adjusted when the paper strip
can be pushed in easily and when the paper strip comes
out in a clear zigzag shape.
c) Setting toothed belt tension
Regularly check the toothed belt leading to the tail rotor drive for damage and the correct tension. The belt is properly
tensioned when you can press one side of the belt inwards by about 3 mm using a small screw driver without excessive
force at the front edge of the tail boom.
Adjust the tension by loosening the four attachment screws of the tail boom and readjusting the tail boom by about 1
mm to the back. For an exact setting, you might be required to first completely assemble the tail rotor drive again in
order to properly set the belt tension.
