WARNINGS & SAFETY NOTES
 In accordance with EN60601-1, the unit is not suitable for use in potentially
explosive atmosphere or with potentially explosive mixture of anaesthetic
substances containing oxygen or nitrous oxide. This unit is for use in a dental
clinical environment only.
 Electromagnetic interference: the unit has been tested and approved for all
the current standards (EN 60601-1-2) both with regard to emission
(electrical field rays and supply voltage interference) and immunity (electrical
fields rays, intermittent bursts on the supply, electrostatic discharges and
supply shock waves).
 Do not look directly at the light source and do not stare at light reflected from
the tooth surface. Prolonged exposure may cause retinal damage.
 Restrict the exposure to the area of the aural cavity in which treatment is
intended.
Prevent heat accumulation when polymerizing with a rubber dam in place.
 Suitable blue light filtering safety glasses must be worn by patient and dentist
during use.
 BASE 290 curing light emits an extremely high intensity light with an energy
output very similar to high intensity quartz halogen lights. One should NOT
direct light energy or place lens directly on soft tissues, oral mucous membrane,
skin or the pulp for extended periods of time. (We recommend such for standard
halogen lights as well.)
 Red or pink colored tissue can absorb more blue light energy than a white
reflective tooth and/or tooth colored restoration. Limit contact with soft tissue as
much as possible.
 Maintain a minimum of two millimeters between the tip of the light and the soft
tissue. If gingival tissue is in close proximity to the area being cured i.e., Class
II or Class V composite restorations, DO NOT expose gingival tissue for more
than twenty seconds. A twenty-second cure is adequate (even when directing
light interproximally for Class II restoration).
 Any unit used for polymerization, including the BASE 290 cure unit, must not
be used on, or by, any person who suffers, or has suffered in the past, from
photo-biological reactions (including urticaria solaris or protoporphyrie
erythropetique), or any person receiving medical treatment and using
photosensitive medication (including methoxsalenes or
dymethylchlorotetracycline).
 Any person who has previously suffered from a retina or crystalline condition or
who has undergone eye surgery, in particular cataract treatment, should visit an
eye specialist before using the unit or before undergoing treatment with the unit.
 Under normal conditions, the power of the LED source does not vary and
consequently the power level does not need to be checked as with ordinary
curing units. However, if in doubt, use a light meter.
 Condensation inside an electrical appliance can be dangerous. If the unit
needs to be transported from a cold to a warm area, it should not be used
immediately but should be left long enough to reach the new room
temperature.
 Do not use the unit near to any heat source. Use of solvent or flammable
products on this unit could cause damage.
 For use only by a dental professional within a clinical environment.
 To assure correct curing, follow the composite manufacturer's individual
product guidelines for cure power and duration.
