Update management: The operator of the application must be informed in the
documentation that, for VdS-compliant operation, the latest software version of
the programs required for correct operation of the applications must be used on
the smart device, the master and any required server. This includes the applica-
tion itself and the relevant operating systems of the hardware components listed
above.
If an update on a master or a required server can only be carried out by an instal-
ler, the operator must ensure that the system software is updated by the installer
in good time.
A software-based update management must be in place, which ensures that the
application is always up to date. Each time the application is called up by the user
(at least once when called up multiple times a day), it must search for updates
and inform the user (message) as soon as an update is available. A message must
be shown as soon as an update is found. 7 days after an update is found, it must
no longer be possible to use the application (forced block). If the master and the
smart device are used without an internet connection, the forced block require-
ment is not relevant. Note: The update management can also be achieved with a
third program, e.g. App Store

etc.

Measures against brute force attacks
Time constant: If an incorrect user code is entered, a time delay must be used to
ensure that the next input attempt can only take place after a specific time has
elapsed. The time t is calculated depending on the failed attempts n after t = 2n
seconds.
Full lock: If the user code is entered incorrectly ten times in succession, the appli-
cation must be blocked from starting completely.
A PUK code must be queried to lift the full block. If the PUK code is entered
incorrectly three times in succession, all saved information relating to this appli-
cation must be deleted. The operator of the application must be informed of the
complete deletion of the data in the documentation.
