Dear customer,
GB
thank you for choosing a product from Bauerfeind. GenuTrain® S is a high-quality medical
product.
Please read through these instructions for use carefully and if you have any questions contact
your medical provider, medical retailer or our Technical Service department.
GenuTrain® S, the active knee support, produces its effect primarily during movement. The
anatomically-contoured lateral hinges are held directly by the Velcro® strap system, thereby
supporting the natural sequence of movements. During movement, the shaped viscoelastic ring
compresses and massages the soft tissues. The enhanced circulation in the joint capsule and the
promotion of lymph drainage lead to reduced swelling, pain relief and improved function while,
at the same time, taking the strain off the kneecap.
The three-dimensional knitting technique ensures a perfect fi t for GenuTrain® S. Graduated
compression at the ends of the support prevents it from rolling and cutting into the leg.
GenuTrain® S must be fi tted for the fi rst use by a trained specialist, otherwise we cannot accept
any liability for the product.
Indications
• Mild instability
• Infl ammatory changes of the knee (arthritis) e.g. rheumatoid arthritis
• Worn knee joint
Side effects
Side effects involving the body as a whole have not been reported to date. Correct fi tting is
assumed. Any supports and orthoses
applied externally to the body can, if tightened excessively,
1
lead to local pressure signs or, rarely, constrict the underlying blood vessels or nerves.
Contra-indications
Hypersensitive reactions harmful to health have not been reported to date. In the following
conditions such aids should only be fi tted and applied after consultation with your medical
provider:
1. Skin disorders/injuries in the relevant part of the body, particularly if infl ammation is present.
Likewise, any raised scars with swelling, redness and excessive heat build-up.
2. Varicose veins.
3. Impaired sensation and circulatory disorders of the legs, e.g. diabetes mellitus.
4. Impaired lymph drainage – including soft tissue swellings of uncertain origin located remotely
from the fi tted aid.
Fitting GenuTrain® S/Notes for the orthopaedic technician
• Check the fi t of the hinges against the patient's leg, particularly in relation to specifi c
anatomical features (e.g. the top of the calfbone), (Figure 1).
• Insert the slightly fl exed hinges into the hinge pocket from the proximal (top) end as per the
markings (Figure 2).
• To fully insert the hinges, extend the hinge pocket by pulling on the draw loops and the lower
hinges (Figure 3).
• Insert the hinges on the inner and outer aspects of the knee in the same way.
• The velcro® straps should preferably be fastened at the hinge on the inside of the knee
(Figure 4).
• The wider straps are intended for the thigh area and the narrow straps for the lower leg. The
shorter straps are used at the front in each case and the longer straps at the back (Figure 5).
• Before fi tting the support, pull all four straps through the outer strap loops on the hinges and
loosely secure the Velcro® fastening at the maximum width (Figure 6).
• To fi t the support, grasp the lateral draw loops and slip the support over the knee so that the
kneecap is surrounded by the shaped ring without exerting any pressure (Figure 7/8).
• After rechecking the position, uniformly tighten and fasten the straps to achieve a correct fi t
(Figure 9).
4
• The Velcro® strap tension should be checked after 10-15 minutes to avoid painful compression
and congestion and adapted if necessary.
Orthese = orthopaedic appliance used to stabilize, relieve, immobilize, control or correct the limbs or the torso
1
• To remove GenuTrain® S, grasp the support from below and pull off the leg (Figure 10).
• The hinges are removed in the reverse sequence. The straps are completely removed, and the
hinges are withdrawn through the lower opening of the hinge pocket at the back (Figure 11).
Notes for the orthopaedic technician
If required, the hinges of GenuTrain® S can be reshaped with heating at the appropriate points in
order to ensure a perfect fi t. To this end, the material is carefully heated on both sides with a hot-air
gun to approx. 120-140°C (248-284°F). Ensure that the Velcro® straps are removed beforehand.
Always observe the safety directions when working with heat-generating equipment.

can be machine washed separately at 30 °C with liquid detergent. Please note the
following when washing your Train products:
1. For products with Velcro® straps: Remove the straps if possible, or fasten them securely at the
place provided for this purpose.
2. If possible, also remove pads/inserts and their terrycloth covers before washing.
We recommend using a mesh bag. Air dry your Train product. Do not dry it in a dryer because this can
compromise the knitted fabric.
Please wash your Train product regularly so that the compression of the knitted fabric can be
retained.
This product has been examined by our own quality control system. However, should you have
any complaint, please contact your retailer or our customer service department.
