Safety instructions
Read these operating instructions
apparatus into service.
The connection of plug and socket
systems shall only be carried out by
qualified personnel.
Plug and socket systems of the type GHG
57. are not suited for use in Zone 0 and
Zone 20 areas.
The temperature class and type of
protection stated on the apparatus shall
be observed.
TThe requirements of the EN 61241-0
and -1 regarding excessive dust deposits
and temperature to be considered from
the user.
They shall be used for their intended pur-
pose and shall be in an undamaged and
perfect state.
Only original manufacturer parts may be
used as replacements and for repairs.
Repairs that affect the explosion
protection may only be carried out by the
manufacturer or by a qualified electrician
in compliance with the respective national
regulations.
Before being put into use, the plug and
socket systems shall be checked in
accordance with Section 6 of the named
instructions.
The flange sockets and inlets may only be
used with the associated, undamaged
plugs and couplers.
The plug and socket system may only be
connected or disconnected at max. 250 V
AC under load and a rated current of 10 A
(6A/60 V for QUICKON® version).
In accordance with IEC/EN 60079-1, the
installation of flameproof plug and socket
systems (flange socket/inlet) is limited to
enclosures with a volume of max. 2 dm³.
In order to guarantee the explosion
protection, only inlets and flange sockets

made of metal may be fitted in the
boreholes of flameproof enclosures.
When opened, the live plug and socket
system components shall be sealed
immediately after disconnection using the
protective cap. Here it is necessary to
ensure that it is closed correctly,
otherwise the minimum degree of

protection and the explosion protection
are no longer guaranteed.
Unused components are to be kept sealed
with the protective cap.
Flange sockets and inlets may only be
used in protective enclosure or apparatus
that have been certified for the respective
application.
When screwing in the flange sockets or
inlets, attention shall be paid to
connected cables or wires to prevent any

damage to the insulation.
The metal flang sockets and inlets shall
be incorporated in the earth potential
equalization.

installation and putting the
Before opening the pressure screw on the
plug and coupler, ensure that it has been
isolated from the supply.
The national safety rules and regulations
for the prevention of accidents, as well as
the safety instructions included in these
operating instructions, that, like this text,
are set in italics, shall be observed!
3
Conformity with standards
The plug and socket system is conform to the
standards specified in the EC-Declaration of
conformity, enclosed separately.
94/9/ EC: Equipment and protective systems
intended for use in potentially explosive at-
mospheres.
The plug and socket systems fulfil further
requirements, such as the EC directive on
electromagnetic compatibility
(2004/108/EC)
They have been designed, manufactured
and tested according to the state of the art
and to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 and
EN ISO/IEC 80079-34:2011.
4
Field of application
The plug and socket systems GHG 57. are
intended for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres in Zones 1, Zones 2 and
Zones 21, Zones 22 in accordance with
IEC/EN 60079-10-1 and IEC/EN 60079-10-2.
The enclosure materials used, including any
external metal parts, are high quality
materials that ensure a corrosion resistance
and resistance to chemical substances
according to the requirements for use in a
„normal industrial atmosphere"
-
impact resistant polyamide
-
nickel-plated brass
-
special steel AISI 316 L.
When used in extremely aggressive
atmospheres, the additional data relating to
the chemical resistance of the plastics being
used shall be taken from the data sheet
GHG 902 4001 P0001.
5
Application / Properties
The plug and socket systems GHG 57. are
used for the power supply of portable, local
controls, electrical installations and portable
electric machines and drives in potentially
explosive atmospheres.
They are also used for the quick connection
of explosion-protected electrical apparatus in
potentially explosive atmospheres and
industrial areas.
The plug and socket systems can be used
up to max. 10A/250V (6A/60 V QUICKON®
version, see Technical Data).
The plug and socket system may only be
connected or disconnected under load
acc. to technical data.
The apparatus connected to the plug
shall be suited for the mains voltage
being applied.
